If your kid is spoiled by relatives for Christmas?
How do you handle the explosion of toys? Last year my aunt and uncle bought dd more toys then Santa did. I went a bit crazy this year because she asked for very specific things. Last year I put them in my spare room and she would go in there whenever she wanted something new but that room will be getting turned into the nursery so I'm kind of at a loss. They don't buy her junk either so I feel bad getting rid of anything.
My aunt just called me up with the list and every time I say you really need to only get one or two gifts I'm told to shush.
I'm very appreciative I just don't know how to handle the mass explosion that is coming. I did a purge last month so thinking another one is needed but dd plays with everything she has.

I let them unwrap everything but only unbox a few. While they're distracted they then get put away and I take them out a little at a time on those days in the dead of winter when they're driving me crazy. That way they have something new to play with.

Similar to pp, they open it all quickly and I bag it back up before they can take a good inventory lol. I leery them open one or two right away and the rest gets sorted out after they go to bed. I take out a little at a time and donate or return some also.

This... and some things end up getting returned. I know Walmart takes returns without a receipt, and I think Target.
Also since my kids have so much--and a lot of it is nice--I donate a lot to preschools, daycares, etc.

I limit it to 2 gifts. Santa brings 2. It still works out to a lot.

Good idea. I think I'll do this. Last time my aunt opened a bunch of stuff while I was cooking. I'll have dh try to smuggle it away.

I always try to do this but my husbands family takes it upon themselves to open all the boxes to let DS start playing with everything right then and there. We end up with so many toys that are defective, too small for him to play with, or break easily. A lot of it ends up in the trash a few days after he opens them. So wasteful. If I even suggest that I'm going to return or exchange something, they try to take the gift back. Weirdest family ever.

Re: If your kid is spoiled by relatives for Christmas?
I also put away stuff. DS birthday is November then we have Christmas then DD birthday is new years day :faint the amount of toys I get during this time is insane.
My house constantly looks like TRU. We have play room so most of it goes there and then the rest go in their rooms.
The key and hardest thing to do is to purge. I am so bad at this because my DS plays with the toys we have but I am going to tell my self he is getting new toys so he doesn't need the old ones anymore!!

I'd love to be able to do that.... I get yelled at by my MIL when I do that... "where did the so and so gift go? why are you hiding that? blah blah blahhhhh"

we cycle toys every few months. What is cycled out stays in bins in our utility room in our basement. Sometimes DD will go in there and request something specific, and other times she will go in there in search for something new. That's when I know it's time to rotate.

Why not ask Aunt and Uncle if they'd like to provide some of the gifts from Santa this year? They'd probably think it was fun.

I don't buy much for my kids. We spend Christmas morning with my parents and my mom goes insane so I limit myself. All of the things that i want to buy them I give them to my inlaws to give so that they have some things.

Nope. They are older and like to get credit for their gifts. It's like a competition between 2 five year olds who are in their 60s to see who gets the best gifts for dd. It really is sweet but overwhelming.
