Article I think it is a very worthwhile read for people on every end of the political spectrum and gets to the rational behind those who voted for trump.

I think for America to succeed we must focus on rebuilding our infrastructure to bring back jobs on every level.

I agree with this article and I have been rationalizing the outcome of this election to myself. To generalize that this guy succeeded because his base support must all be racist, xenophobic, misogynists is misguided. Sure, his most extreme supporters absolutely are. Those are the ones running around terrorizing women and minorities with the threat of male domination and white supremacy since the election results came in. But no, 60 million of them are not this extreme. For better or worse, this guy spoke to their fears for their way of life and he painted HRC as not just a typical politician but the devil. Unfortunately, it also didn't help that she is a woman (I think sexism played a bigger role than racism this time around). These are people who have fallen on hard economic times and feel like neither party represents them anymore. Many of them refuse to accept that the workforce has changed and that technology has taken over the landscape. Dragging America back 50 years is not the solution. They chose to ignore the hateful divide he was creating and voted based on their own needs vs out of good conscience for the greater good and the immediate threat to women and minorities that he fueled. But, they have to own their decision now because all actions have consequences.

I think just the fact he was in this race, and won, is just a sign of a much bigger problem overall. I have been saying these out of touch parties (and out of date system as a whole) need to change and be overhauled for a long time. I don't think Trump is the guy to lead this change on our behalf though. I happen to feel like Trump is one of the biggest con artists in modern times and he played on his supporters' fears to get himself where he is now. I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm not confident he will considering just days after the election the billionaire businessman is pulling the old bait and switch and is already backpedaling on some of the over-ambitious promises he made his supporters. They should be outraged that it's a basic slap in the face to them (and all of us now) but they don't seem to get it yet. Many of them are still hung up on Hillary not thanking her supporters. They're also gloating and relishing in their victory and naively think many of the protesters are just sore losers that need to get over the results and accept that threatening minorities is just a new way of life now because "he will bring us jobs and keep us safe", and "we had to put up with 8 years of Obama and we dealt with it". Maybe it's a good thing if he doesn't come through on many of his promises. Whether they made the right choice remains to be seen.

This was one of the craziest elections I hope to ever see and had all the makings for the perfect storm. This guy managed to create mass hysteria and did unheard of things. So many lifelong party supporters crossed party lines to either get him in, or keep him out. One thing is certain. Trump's temperament and personality, this whole election and all the multiple factors that played into it, and its impact on America and the world will go down in history books and be thoroughly dissected and studied for a long time to come. Politics is a tricky and complicated thing. He can deny it, but he's every bit the politician he claims not to be. And now he officially is one. The one that holds highest office. The ball is in his court now, and I just hope he doesn't drop it.

Good article, but I don't think anyone is saying that the sole reason of them voting Trump is because of racism. But even though they did vote for Trump because of financial reasons, there was hate in there, too. They chose to overlook it because it doesn't affect them. There's racism in there whether they like it or not.
