Sympathy etiquette

Sympathy etiquette

One of the teachers at daycare lost her husband unexpectedly. We feel awful. They didn't share any details on funeral or services and I asked another teacher if there's a collection for flowers or anything. It sounds like the other teachers did their own thing.

Of course I will get a card. Can/do I do something else? I don't have her home address so I'd have to hand to her in person. Is a gift card tacky? A check in lieu of flowers?

I'm trying to be thoughtful and I know this woman makes peanuts. Could I do an Ivaronne gift card in lieu of being able to give food.

I'm afraid of coming off as tacky or something. I just feel awful for her.

some thing happened with us. And an email came out to the parents asking to please not discuss her loss. I don't know it's a tough situation so I didn't give anything. Of course, I felt very bad but after that email I held back from a card or anything.

Re: Sympathy etiquette

I would give a sympathy card and I think a gift card to a restaurant that delivers or has take out would be nice as I'm am sure cooking is something she won't want to be doing

Sympathy etiquette

I would give a card with money that way she can do what she can with it, whether it be to help pay for the burial or even for groceries.

Re: Sympathy etiquette

A gift card for some dinner takeout would be very appreciated I am sure at this point, along with a card sending condolences.

You just say you are sorry and thinking about her. Thta will be welcome and it DOES help.

NEVER say "things happen for a reason". Its one of the most cruel things to say to anyone who is mourning.

Im sure a card and gift card will be appreciated. Maybe a basic Amex or Master card GC this way it can be used for whatever is needed.
