Car inspection nightmare
My grandma's car is due for nys inspection. Everything passed except for some machine they hook up (I don't know the terminology) but something about she didn't drive enough miles to pass. So my uncle has been driving her car around for a few hours over the past few weeks but still it's not enough to pass, they keep trying and they tried a couple places. The mechanic and car dealership has heard of this before but no answers how many miles does she have to go to pass. It's a real headache and causing her so much stress, she's crying, feels like she's bothering everyone and worried this won't be resolved. Anyone experience this? My mother read that in other states they stopped this part of the inspection because it was happening especially with newer cars? ???

Re: Car inspection nightmare
Yes it happened with DHs old car and no matter what he did he couldn't get it to pass. He drove it for miles. Months and months of this. It was some sensor issue. He is very good with cars and tried everything. Changing out sensors and parts, driving it for miles. The mechanics were stumped too. Finally he had to junk the car. The car had over 200 k miles on it though and was an extra car we used as a station car. But it still killed him to have to donate it because the car ran 100 percent fine and perfect except for it not being able to pass inspection. It was a nightmare and to this day he is still pissed over it.

If its that new it should still be under warranty. The dealer should have to make this right and fix the sensor so it can pass inspection

Re: Car inspection nightmare
Also what year is this car? I just verified on the NYS DMV website that if the car is less than 2 years old it should NOT require an emissions inspection only safety. ( where they test brakes, headlights, turn signals etc). The problem you are describing has to do with the emissions inspection. But if the car is onky one year old emissions inspection should not be required

Car inspection nightmare
FIL had same problem. For some reason, the history was wiped out and he doesnt drive it much. I think it only needed to be driven half an hour or so to get the history, but it still didn't pass. They said something needs to be fixed.
