When do they start internals and
what exactly do they do?
I go for my strep b and start my weekly visits at my next appt in 2 weeks. Just wondering what to expect?
What is a strep b test? and does it hurt?

The strep B test is just a quick swab and it doesn't hurt at all. Internals are just what they sound like- the Dr. lubes up and insert fingers. They feel around for the position of the baby's head and to see if you are dilating or effaced at all. They are NOT pleasant, but I don't think I'd classify it as pain either.

My doc started internals at 36 weeks. Strep B is cake...they just take a swab and you don't even notice. Internals on the other hand are pretty uncomfortable. Pretty much the doc going in, feeling around to tell you if you have dialted and thinned out at all.
Oh, and beware if your doc suggests to "stir things up" or "strip your membranes".....OUCH!

I had my first internal at 36 weeks, but my Dr. wanted to wait another week. I actually asked her to do it.

Yup, basically what Nicole & Doreen said  The strep B is just like a pap test .. not bad at all IMO
The internals I think can depend on your doctor sometimes. I've heard people saying their internals were awful, some people just feel uncomfortable, like I did. They aren't at all pleasant but I think some doctors are just more gentle than others.. My first 2 internals were no biggie - not painful to me. The last two have been rough..but I saw two different doctors in my practice and this last one she did try to 'stir things up'
I think my first internal was at about 35 1/2 wks.. usually they start them around the 36 wk point.

Mine started at 36 weeks too Jodi.. not painful but maybe about 10-15 seconds of being uncomfortable
