When did you stop using a bottle for milk at night?

Not sure when to switch or if I even should. DD uses various type of cups - straw ones, rubber sippy cups.. But bottles for milk. She just turned one.

What did you all do?

I'm still trying to get my 2.5 year old off of her nightly milk in a bottle. Chat Icon

Last night she randomly said she was going to drink her milk out of a cup like a big girl. Tonight she was begging for it in a bottle but ultimately drank it out of her cup. This is the furthest we've come.

2 years, 5 months. Dd1 is such a picky eater. Knowing that she at least got the milk helped. She won't drink milk out of a cup...unless it's chocolate milk.

I had dd2 when dd1 turned 2. I didn't want to take he rbittle away then and make it more of a change with a new sibling. 5 months later I said no more bottles. She said ok and never asked for it again. Although she still won't drink milk. She gets plenty of yogurt though.

Same here (except 2 DSs and DS1 didn't give it up until closer to 3.

DS 2 gave up the bottle completely at 15 months. I wasn't really pushing it but, he didn't seem to miss it and I figured it would be easier to do earlier on.

I would try to get rid of it sooner rather than later. My DS was off the bottle by 9 months, but getting him to stop BFing has been INCREDIBLY challenging - he is now 2.5 and its down to 1-2 times per day. I think if I would have stopped around a year, it would have been much easier.

DD is 2.5 right now.
Gets a bottle of milk 3 times a day:
when she wakes up
before her nap
when she goes to sleep at night

Other than that she drinks water from a water bottle with a straw built in.
She uses a regular cup if it is a one time thing (some juice or something that's not for all day drinking)

Her Ped keeps telling us to get her off the bottle...

With my first he gave up his bottles at 13 months. With my current son that just turned a year we stopped bottles at 10 months.

With DS, he LOVED his bottle. I tried taking it away a few times, but he stopped drinking milk then. I preferred he drink milk, so I gave him back his bottle. He had 2 bottles a day, one at wake up and one at night time, and he gave it up just before his 2nd birthday.

With DD, she could take it or leave it. We took the bottle away and she cried for it around a year, so we gave it back. Took it away again at 15 months and she didn't even notice.

Do it when your child is ready. 12 months is still very young.

DD has been off the bottle completely since 12 months -- when we switched her off formula to whole milk, we dropped the bottles cold turkey. I also stopped her night bottle at that time and the only time she got milk was during her meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and then water in a sippy cup in between. My pediatrician feels very strongly about getting them off bottles ASAP. I expressed concern with dropping the night time bottle right before she went in her crib and he gave me some tough loving -- told me that last bottle was more for my sake than it was for hers. He was right. I loved having her in pjs, freshly bathed, laying in my arms, rocking back and forth in the rocker in her room. He also said that having milk residue in her mouth and on her teeth wasn't great to fall asleep with. I just didn't do it one night -- read her a story, put her in her crib and walked out of the room. She put herself to sleep and has been ever since.
