Nighttime Potty Training

DD has been potty trained since she was 2. pretty much no accidents since. but now at 4, she still uses a pull up at night. and her night pullups are always full full full. she does not drink at night, we stop liquids at least 1 hour before bed. she uses the potty before bed. we tried sleeping in underwear and it was awful. she would sleep through peeing herself and either wake up once she felt herself wet or not even wake up then. Since her pullups are always so soaked I feel she will never be nighttime potty trained. she was such an early and easy potty trainer!! im so confused. what age did your child not need pull ups at night anymore? any advice for transitioning out of pull ups?

Nighttime Potty Training

I've heard night training is more a developmental thing. Some kids don't until age 6. If a child is a deep sleeper, then they'll sleep through having to go.

This is what I heard too... except DS got very close to 6 when I tried the alarm (we used WetStop). It worked in 3 days... just trained DS to wake up before peeing somehow by alarming when he peed. I wished I tried it sooner.

Re: Nighttime Potty Training

My kids are younger but my neighbor was just telling me the other day that her son who's in first grade went back into pull ups overnight because he was having so many nighttime accidents.

My son is 3 but he often pees overnight so he's in a pull up & probably will be for a while. I try to limit evening drinking & some mornings he wakes up dry but not consistently. He seems to not poop in his sleep anymore, thankfully.

DS turns 6 in a couple weeks. He still uses a pull out at night. He wakes up dry maybe 80% of the time... But when he wets it, he just sleeps through it! Call me lazy- but I'd rather use the pull up and us all get a good nights sleep...
The night time training is a developmental thing, so I wouldn't worry too much about it! Be glad she's sleeping so good at night- everythng's easier when everybody is rested!

My son stopped using pull ups at night when he turned 5. He was trained for 2 years before that and would just be soaked in the morning. It'll happen, just give it some time.

Re: Nighttime Potty Training

My DD was the same way potty trained by 2 except for at night. She will be 6 in January.

What I did earlier this year was for a few months I stopped putting pull ups on and I would wake her between 11-12 to make her pee. She would still at the beginning had a few accidents at night. I did this for a while then one day she woke up on her own at night and went to the bathroom and then I just fully stopped waking her. I now make sure she pees right before she falls asleep and we know have none to very few accidents.

To make clean up easier on me I have her sleep on this pads that you get at the hospital and make her use a separate blanket from her sheet and comforter set so when she did have an accident 95% of the time all I had to do was remove the pad put a new one down and give her a new blanket and of course new clothes.

By the end of the year I will probably still have her sleep on the pad but I will start letting her use whatever sheets and blankets on her bed that she wants Chat Icon

also I was lazy about training her at night so I could have probably started this earlier. I will say when I did start she was wanting to not wear pull up anymore and I think it was because her little brother was starting potty training so I assume she didn't want to be in pull ups anymore if her baby brother was starting them
