LIRR train derails
NEW HYDE PARK, Long Island (WABC) -- Crews worked through the night to clear the tracks after a Long Island Rail Road train with 600 people on board derailed near New Hyde Park on Saturday night.
29 people were hurt in the accident. The most serious injury was a broken leg.
The train was heading eastbound to New Hyde Park just after 9 p.m. when it sideswiped a maintenance train heading in the same direction, and derailed a half a mile from the New Hyde Park station.
Two passenger cars tipped over.
It is unclear if that work train was moving but witnesses say it caught on fire, with smoke then filling the commuter train.

LIRR train derails
yesterday AM the 8:10 east bound train was to be on track 3, my train on track 2 at 8:16, they changed the farmingdale line to my track and did not change my train to a diff track. All I thought was, how can 2 come in about the same time on the same track in diff directions
The tracks ans times are a mess this weekend due to work on many lines

DH and I had to drive his cousin to Smithtown, we were all at the Barclay Center. Thankfully we got on at Floral Park and that line was not affected. I'm usually on the Pt Washington line.
All those people who got off at Jamaica had no idea about the derailment until they heard the announcement on the platform. That really sucked, coming home from a concert and getting stuck so late at night.
Thankfull also that no one was killed last night.

Were they able to get the rails repaired for today? We went into the city yesterday from Bellmore and on the way back the train was packed more than I've ever seen it (probably also b/c Comic Con just ended). Hopefully the commute wasn't too bad for people today!

no most of the west bound trains we cancelled today or combined and I hear the east bound was cancelled.
