Tips for an active 1 year old and your Christmas Tree

I was thinking of bolting it to the wall. Or barricading it with boxes.

my daughter will make it her mission to pull it down Chat Icon

Bolt to the wall we did when both kids were younger.

We always tie it up to the wall regardless bc I'm afraid of it falling and all my ornaments breaking

Put a baby gate around it. Like one of those that make a big circle.

I collected boxes from people - like Staples copy paper case boxes, Avon deliveries, etc.

Put weights in them and wrapped in wrapping paper.

I put them all around the base of the tree - he couldn't move them to touch the branches or ornaments. He wasn't able to climb them either.

Re: Tips for an active 1 year old and your Christmas Tree

We gated it for 2 years

Then didn't decorate all the way down

Last year was the first year it was out and open. We just didn't use the breakable ones bc a few broke from either being pulled or something being thrown in lol

DD1 was fine with the tree, but we gated it for DD2. She's 2 this year and I think we might need to gate it again. We bought an 8 sided gate by Regalo.

We bought a very small tree and put it on a table. I didn't trust them with a full size tree.

We had a rope tied to the top that we anchored to the wall and put a baby gate in front. We also bought felt ornaments and kept the breakables packed away for 2 years.

This is what I actually planned on doing! I'm happy to see it worked! My dh thinks I'm nuts, but I feel like it will work and look cute.

My DS is/was very active, but for some reason was never attracted to the tree. We also only have it up for a very short period of time. I'd say 7-10 days and most of those days were traveling.

This made me lol

We just put non breakable ornaments on the bottom. They just play with the ones they can reach and spend hours rearranging them which keeps them quiet and happy which keeps me happy! Last year dd2 was 13 months and she was fine thankfully.

How did you make them not climbable?

We have an eyehook in the corner of the ceiling and have always tied the tree up regardless, and put non breakable on the bottom.
