Confirming property taxes
We are looking at buying a house from a seller that isn't using a real estate agent. How can I confirm the property taxes? This is in Massapequa.

We called the town when we couldn't get a straight answer from the seller or her RE.

Re: Confirming property taxes
Just look at the site carefully. The actual taxes show may not be accurate because the seller may have exemptions that you would not be entitled to (i.e., veterans, senior, STAR, etc.) You don't want to base your decision on an artificially low tax bill.

Thank you. The exemptions are listed. She said she gets STAR and also a small military deduction. Well it turns out her small military deduction is almost $2K! I'm glad I looked.

Good thing you looked. My taxes were 7K when I moved in and now they are 10K b/c the guy we purchased the house from was a Dr. for the military. He had a major deduction. We did not know this.
