What meals do you pack for your kids lunch at school?
I am new at preparing lunches for DD to bring to school and am looking for any easy and relatively healthy ideas. The only thing I can really give her is cheese sandwiches which will get old very quickly. Can I put pasta or Perdue chicken nuggets in a thermos container and expect them to be warm and safe to eat by lunchtime? What do you pack?

When I needed to pack lunch for daycare, I packed things like mac n cheese, buttered pasta with beans/veggies, quesadilla, waffles, eggs, French toast, chili, grilled cheese, leftovers. Some things I put in the thermos, other things I put in a cooler. I think our thermos keeps things hot for 5 hours.

We do a lot in the thermos- mac & cheese mixed with peas & carrots, soup, pasta with sauce & a cut up meatball, leftover chili, cut up grilled cheese or pizza. I will also sometimes pack ham & cheese sandwich, veggies with either hummus or ranch to dip, sunbutter & jelly, fruit salad, pasta salad. On the side- veggies, fruit, cheese, or yogurt

We do cheese sandwich, stonyfield organic yogurt pouches, applesauce (gogo squeeze or another pouch), cut up fruit. In pre-k we added a small container of cannned vegetables.
We also do hot food in a thermos... chicken nuggets, tortellini or ravioli, mac and cheese.
I'm not sure how warm the items are at lunch, but my son eats them LOL We use a thermos that's metal on the inside.... we pour boiling water into it and let it sit for 2 minutes to heat the metal, then dump water, wipe out and insert the food and shut the lid.

Re: What meals do you pack for your kids lunch at school?
ugh!! my sons 2 weeks into kindergarten, and i'm already so over packing lunches for him!! LOL i tried "hot" stuff in a thermos, but he doesn't eat it because its not "hot enough" he's also not a big fan of lunch meat or sandwiches... luckily he's allowed to bring peanut butter, and he's not allergic... so he likes peanut butter on graham crackers. so i've been doing that. also, a few days i just did pepporoni and cheese with crackers. he'll eat yogurt, too so i'm gonna do that... and then i usually do an apple or a peach cup for his fruit, and some Goldfish or cheezits or something, sometimes i throw a string cheese in there. he used to eat hummus, so maybe i'll try that again one day, too. I'm also gonna let him buy lunch once or twice a week, too--- i just have to wait until back to school night to find out how to set up an account for him and all that.

Follow sage spoonfuls on instagram, she always has a lot of good lunch ideas for kids, although she goes a little overboard with making everything look so pretty lol.

This exactly. It's been working really well.

This is exactly what we do and it seems to work! Also I do hummus on a flour tortilla with turkey and cheese, roll it up and then cut it in to circles. For some reason my kids won't eat the wraps whole, but they'll it it like this. Cheese and crackers with grapes. My kids love cottage cheese so I give them that with fresh fruit. Bagel with cream cheese (although my husband and I had an argument about that the other day. He says that's breakfast and not lunch. Yet I let my kids buy lunch one day last week and my son bought a bagel with cream cheese ). We also just decided to let them buy lunch 2 days a week because 2 weeks into school and I'm already over packing Lunches and I feel like we are spending more money. I need to start shopping smarter!

In Thermos: Butter Pasta and mini meatballs from Earths Best, rice pilaf with carrot sticks on side, mac and cheese.
Sandwiches: Hummus sandwich, turkey sandwich, and other coldcuts. I limit it to once a week. Luckily 3x a week is hot lunch so I am lucky.
