I would not pack a thermos for a field trip. The chances of it coming home are slim to none, unless you are carrying it. I would do bagel, cheese and crackers, turkey/ham roll ups, etc.

For school trips we have been told that everything must be disposable so no thermos, ice packs, etc.
I generally do a bagel as a special treat, or a package of cheese & crackers.

You should pack something that doesn't need to stay cold. We are told that everything must be disposable as PP mentioned. I'd send a granola or cereal bar, piece of fruit, bag of pretzels, juice box or bottle of water.
