How do you figure out how long of a term to take out or how much?
I would use factors such as the age of your children, how much you have left on your mortgage and what your other monthly expense are, etc.
If you have young children I think that you should have a decent amount so that the surviving spouse does not have to worry about providing for them and saving for college.

About how much should the life insurance be?
My wife and I spoke with someone a few years ago (when she was pregnant with DD/kid #1) and the agent set up these items: My salary until the kid is 21 Her salary until the kid is 21 Mortgage paid off Baby's college paid off kid #2 college paid off and some other items
The monthly payment was huge! So we didn't get it, but now we are thinking we need to.

Are there any companies out there that do not pre test? My hubby has some medical concerns that are treated and monitored etx
He can definitely go through work, but I'd still look into an individual plan as well. My DH had testicular cancer over 10 years ago. We were super nervous that his rates would be ridiculous. Since he was 10 years out and testicular cancer has excellent treatment rates, he received a clean bill of health and got a good rate. We use northwest mutual.
