Has anyone's child gotten tongue tie surgery?

My younger DS has some extra tissue connecting his tongue to the bottom of his mouth that gives DS limited tongue movement to enunciate. I always just thought DS had a cute little voice but now that he is getting older realize certain sounds like th aren't pronounced correctly.

DH thinks we should get this corrected through a simple procedure/surgery. I don't want DS to go through an unnecessary procedure.

Yes. Dd2 had a bad lip and tongue tie. She's ebf, but that wasn't the reason for us doing it. I wanted to avoid speech issues when she got older. We did it when she was about 3 months old. The whole thing took about 30 seconds. We went to Dr Siegel. He's the best. Feel free to fm me

I did it with dr kotlow in Albany - he is one of the most well know doctors for the procedure. DD was only a few weeks old though. When they are older it's a bigger deal. FM me any questions.

Please have it done...as someone who has seen a close family member suffer with speech issues as an adult (due to tongue tie) I would 100% recco having it done now.

Absolutely have it done! My DS is almost 4 and currently in speech therapy. When I was in the hospital with him the lactation consultant said he was having issues latching because of a slight tongue tie. She told me to ask the ped to have it clipped. I stupidly listened to my ped when she said it was very slight and that it was unnecessary to put him through that because it was s slight it won't have any effect on him if we left it. When he was almost a year I had spoken to a friend who had the same exact issue and she fought with her ped to have her sons tongue tie clipped. She finally went to an ent who did it for her no Problem. I wishe I had fought harder about it instead of worrying that it would hurt him and that we would be putting him through an unnecessary procedure. He may not have all these speech issues now.

we did for 2 of our kids - my older son was 2 when we did it - he was not talking much and was behind for his age - his speech took off right after. My other was younger because I knew. it was done as part of another surgery

My twins had it done at 11 months old. The doctor saw them at a few months old and said we could wait and see, but at 11 months he said it was significant tongue tie. They healed just fine after surgery, no biggie. That was a few years ago. I now need to take my 3 year old to him about her swollen tonsils. We used Dr. Mendelsohn.

DS had a mild tongue tie, and it was impacting his speech tremendously. We had the surgery done when he was 2.5 and the difference is unbelievable! Truly life changing!
PM with any questions!
Good luck!!
