Narragansett, RI
My ILs have rented a house in Narragansett, RI for a week in July.
Has anyone been there before?
Other than the beach what is there to do?
Are there family friendly things to do in the area - we have a 2 year old?
Are there any restaurants that you would recommend?
I know we will be somewhat near Newport so I am open to ideas in that area as well.

I recently stayed right near there with my girls for a few days. We were in s.Kingstown and it was cold and miserable so we didn't venture to the beaches or anything. We stayed at a hotel in South County commons which is a cute shopping center with a fun toy store, movie theatre, and a few restaurants (brewed awakenings was a nice coffee shop and there was a yummy brick oven pizza place). Wakefield is nearby with every chain imaginable. There was a playground right next to south county hospital we hit one day. We also spice the 30 or 40 minutes to mystic one day for the aquarium. You're also close to a ferry to Block island which could be a fun day trip. We were cooped up waiting for my sister to have a baby so none of this was a well thought out relaxing vacation but maybe something here will be useful. The pier is supposed to be pretty but we didn't make it there.

I love that area. Westerly a great little beach town close by. There's also a boardwalk area with rides and a water park. Watch Hill has a historical carousel and nice town too. You can take the ferry to Block Island or the speed ferry to Martha's Vineyard. As much as I love Newport, there's not a ton to do for kids. There is an arcade, but your DC might be too young to enjoy that. Of course you can walk through town, do a little shopping and go out to eat.

I LOVE that part of Rhode Island! It isn't too far from Mystic so that's a nice way to spend a day. There is a boardwalk nearby. Ride the vintage carousel at Easton’s Beach Hike a section of The Cliff Walk, a paved 3.5 mile path that provides a glimpse of the mansion’s backyards as well as breathtaking Atlantic Ocean views. Portions of it are even stroller-friendly. You can go whale watching! This is one of my favorite things to do in RI
Checkout the Newport Fudgery and Newport Creamery
My husband and I have been seriously considering a relocation to RI so if I think of anything else I will post it for you. The state itself is so small that even with things being a little further out, nothing is super far away.

Re: Narragansett, RI
I grew up in RI! Narraganset is a fun town to stroll in. Beach is beautiful (very different from beaches here, much less of a process to get there). The Coast Guard House and Turtle Soup were my favorite restaurants in town but I haven't honestly been in years. Get a Dels frozen lemonade. There's some cute little boutique shops. Head toward Charlestown on Rt 1 and visit the Fantastic Umbrella Factory and then get some "chowdah" and clam cakes at the Hitching Post (Charlestown) or Aunt Carries (Narraganset). Also find out if they're holding "Blues on the Beach". Westerly, Newport, and Mystic are all close by and yes Block Island ferry leaves from Narraganset and Block Island is a fun day trip. Its a small town and last I knew there weren't any big "attractions" but still lots of fun.
