what do you do to make your child's birthday special??

on the actual day of? we had a birthday party on a different day. and their actual birthday is after the party.

so what do you do on their birthday? any special traditions?

We let her pick where she would like to go for a special birthday dinner and then went to the store to get her big present (bike). We also had a party on a different day.

We usually take him somewhere when his party is not his bday. His 1st bday we went to the ecology center, 2nd bday was cold spring harbor fish hatchery. Thinking maybe adventure land this year. still haven't decided. Then we always have another cake on his actual bday.

They get woken up with us singing Happy Birthday and a cupcake and candle to blow out. Their bedroom door get a balloon cascade the night before, so when they open their door they are surprised with balloons hanging and covering the entire door way. They love it!!

I ususlly use party supplies for dinner that night - table cloth, banners, streamers, balloons, plates etc...

My kids aren't school age yet, so we've been taking them somewhere special on the day of their bday. This year my soon to be 5yo picked Dave and Buster's. For his brother in the fall we picked Imaginations at Play. I'm not sure what we'll do when they're in school if I'll let them take the day off or not...

I don't have kids but my own mom used to always stick a special treat under my pillow while I was asleep so that in the morning, (I slept with my hands under my pillow) it was the first thing I grabbed (a stuffed animal, the string to a balloon, etc.). I wish she still did it now.

We let them pick their favorite food for dinner. I bake a birthday cake or cupcakes. And the grandparents usually come over that day.

I have let DD pick a place last year I think she chose to chuck e cheese we go out to eat for lunch or dinner usually and we have ice cream cake. her bday is on new years day so we are always off.

for DS he is only 2 I haven't done anything yet but I will let him also choose. not sure how this will work out if I will take off from work and what will happen when he starts school

1- Funfetti Pancakes with a candle
2- If we get her a few gifts she will open them throughout the day (not all at once) to build excitment.
3- Go out to dinner probably her favorite place the diner.
4- have a small cake or if there is any left over cake we sing happy birthday.

(DS was born in early september so he's usually still on summer vacation)
we take the day off from work, go to the queens zoo, have lunch at a place of his choosing, go to the park, and meet my parents by their house for a birthday dinner at a polish diner.

have been doing it for 5 years straight. This year is the first time we'll be changing plans- we plan on having his actual party on his birthday.

I always decorate the whole kitchen for them and we use special bday plates, cups, napkins, etc. They get their gifts that day and I make them their favorite dinner and a cake.

Because my kids are EXACTLY 4.5 yrs apart (DD is 9/19 and DS is 3/19) I also make a "half bday cake" for whoever has the half bday. They love it!!!..............and it makes them feel a little special. We started this when my DS was born because my DD was upset nobody shared her bday month (my DH and the dog are in June and my DS and I are in March) so celebrating her half bday with her little brother made her so happy and then we just continued it from their on both of their bdays.

I cover their rooms in balloons while they sleep. They really love this. I also decorate our kitchen with their favorite character scheme. I always make smiley face pancakes on their birthdays too.

DS just turned 5 last Wednesday. We did homemade blueberry pancakes (his favorite) with a candle for breakfast. Sent cupcakes into school with him, and then we did hibachi for dinner that night. So the whole day was centered around food lol. But on Saturday we took him to the Bronx Zoo and Sunday was his birthday party.

We always go out to dinner at the restaurant of their choice and we invite the grandparents and local aunts and uncles.
