Do you get your child a special gift for their birthday each year?

I am thinking of doing that pearl necklace where you add a pearl each year. Then I think maybe just a different type of jewelery each year or another collectible. Then I go back to thinking I am nuts.

Thoughts?

First and second birthday he had big parties where he got tons of gifts, we invested money for him also but didn't get big gifts bc he's too young to realize all the other gifts aren't from us and would rather put the money away for college lol

yes I try to get a piece of jewelry for DD each year but I did forget this year I will just buy it for her now she wont know the difference

ETA: I did this cause her bday is Janurary 1st so by then she has tons of toys between xmas and bday so I figured I buy her jewelry

When he gets older I probably will. He's only 2 so for those days he just got what others have given him.

DD will be 8 this year and this is the first year we will be getting her a gift from us. Prior to now, she never knew the difference. We gave her parties every year, so that was enough for us. I have always wanted to start buying her a pearl for each year, but never got to it. Maybe I'll start next year, and just catch up!
