potty training advice needed!

after a few days of success with going on the potty my daughter now holds in her pee almost all day long! She tells us when she has to go but then we get to the bathroom and she says she doesn't have to go anymore. She has been wearing pull ups to bed at night so its almost like she knows she will get a pull up and waits for that moment to then pee.

I am at my wits end with this and don't know what to do-does anyone have any suggestions?? TIA!!

I'd probably back off for awhile and revisit in a couple of months. It sounds like she just wants to exert her control, and I wouldn't want to be on the losing end of a power struggle, lol. My DD was the same way- fully capable but unwilling the first time we tried. The 2nd time was easy! Good luck!

Same for us. Dd1 was more than capable physically but she wasn't ready. She held it to the point where she was even refusing to go in a diaper when I gave up. It was terrible. A few months later she was ready and was trained on day one.

She is 3 and a half and we have tried potty training in the past but she never seemed to 'get it' where this time she is actually getting it but just holding it.

I would prob. tell her that you're getting rid of the pull ups. Maybe if she realizes she doesn't have that safety net, she'll go. Good luck.

i would keep her in pull ups for now and try again in 2-3 months.
I would try the 3 day method when you feel ready to try again

My daughter was an absolute nightmare. She's 4, (4.5 actually) and just started going on the potty. It's been an absolute nightmare training her. The fact that she even pees on the potty is a miracle in itself. It took a lot of bribing over the course of a year and finally, those stupid bunch o balloons is what got her to go. She's still in a pull up at night, which I am slowly preparing her for to be taken away and she doesn't yet poop on the potty. Honestly I didn't think she would ever get to this point, I don't have any real advice, just more of I understand your frustration. She will get there. My daughter also would hold it the entire day until night time. My kid is just a control freak and was determined to prove to me that this was one thing I would not or could not control. I feel your pain!

thank you all for the advice. Jenn1621-did you continue trying or just give up and then try again a few months later? Dealing with this while 7 months pregnant is also not fun....so so frustrating!

If you're 7 months pregnant there's a good chance she senses the impending change, too. Is she having accidents? I can't imagine going 10+ hours holding it in!

Get rid of the pull-ups IMO. They just caused confusion with my DS. And if she can hold it all day without an accident she doesn't need them.
