Diaper rash advice

Please tell me what has successfully worked for you in clearing up diaper rash. Ds has some broken skin from it, and I feel so bad for him. Took him to the dr. Yesterday, and she said use Desitin max strength, But over 24 hours later, I don't really see any improvement. Also tried A&D and Boudreaux s butt paste, with no luck.

Eta,another question. Dr said stop using wipes,,just use water, rinse his tush in the sink. Or use a wet cloth. That's fine at home. But what do I do if we're out?

Triple paste!!! My ds constantly had diaper rash. I.should have bought stock in it. It works.

They sell wipes called "water wipes" at target. I use them when my DD gets a diaper rash. Desitin max worked awesome for my older DD, but did nothing for my youngest. I use triple paste on her and it works well. And I let her "air out" as much as possible. Oh, and I use pampers sensitive diapers.

What kind of wipes were you using? They could be very irritating for newborns. After you wipe, make sure he is fully dry before diapering him and adding diaper cream. Have him spend as much time as possible without a diaper on so the skin can fully dry and heal.

I used triple paste as well. It worked great for DS.

When I was out, I would put wet papers towels in a ziploc. I would buy Viva paper towels, they are very soft.

Water wipes! My ped is very anti-wipes and is always telling me to just use a wet paper towel but I don't cause its rough on the tush.

I like Dr. Smith's diaper cream.

Dd2 had diaper rash before she was even out of the hospital poor thing. I used triple paste or whatever I had that had the highest concentration of zinc I could get and that I had in reach(I grabbed whatever they used at the hospital and took that home too). She outgrew it but is still more prone to diaper rashes than my first.

I had never heard of "water wipes" but I will look for them. I've been using Pampers sensitive wipes, which I used for my Dd for 3 years, along with Luvs diapers and some Vaseline at each change, and she never got a diaper rash, so this is new to me. My ds is only 3 weeks, but already seems to have much more sensitive skin than Dd. At home I've been trying to use a spray bottle with water and tissues, and I've been patting him dry with a tissue before applying the desitin. I think it's finally starting to look a little better. I'm just impatient and want to help him get better as fast as possible bc he seems so uncomfortable : ( Thanks for all the tips!

The best thing for us when things got bad were trip,e paste AF. must say AF. it comes in a small tube and is harder to find.

Change diaper. Clean with water. Let air dry. I'd also fan with a book. Must be completely dry. Apply thin layer of triple paste AF. worked like s charm

Try switching diapers and wipes. My DD3 was super sensitive - we use Andy Pandy diapers and Water Wipes - get them both on Amazon. Highly recommend.

could be the wipes are too harsh on the delicate newborn skin. i even suspected certain diapers gave my DC rashes. viva paper towels are pretty soft and similar to what i was given in the hospital when DC was born. i would use those with water to wipe. for a couple days i would try to air the tush out as much as possible. lay towels and chucks on the floor and let him do tummy time with no diaper. i also limit wiping to dirty diapers only, not pee.

The pediatrician recommended 3 steps to get rid of diaper rash. It worked in 2 days. First put mylanta (non flavored), then triple antibiotic ointment, then a&day on top. I was skeptical at first but it cleared it up fast. His skin was broken too.

I agree that triple paste is awesome. I used desitin until then.

I think the key is to wash the butt under the sink for every poop (at 3 weeks, you aren't going out that much). Check for redness & at even a hint, start using cream.

I still use it on my big kids' butts. It works!

DD1 had horrible diaper rash issues. For us the desitin max worked best but we also used to leave her with no diaper and would use washcloth or wet paper towel to clean her during an outbreak. There were times that we needed to use prescribed rash cream by her ped if it was really bad. Also for her she was unable to use pampers brand diapers. The chemicals in them irritated her.

Eta: also we put rash cream for each change didn't matter if she had a rash at the time or not.

Triple Paste is the best by far. We also used to make sure we had air dry/diaper free time after changes.

Could be a reaction to wipes. Could be a sensitivity to diapers. Maybe switch? But sketch one thing at a time or you won't know what's working. If the diaper rash continues and you are breast feeding it could be a protein sensitivity? Try pulling back in diary in your diet to see if it improves?
