DD now realizes I leave her at daycare.....

She just turned 1 yesterday and now all of a sudden realizes that I leave her at daycare. She's been at daycare since 3 months and has never once had a problem in the morning during drop off. Yesterday she didn't want to go to the teacher in the early drop off room (same teacher for the last 9 months) and she started to cry hysterically. This morning, same exact thing. I know this is very common -- just venting. It felt horrible walking down the hall to exit the building hearing her scream "Momma! Momma!" Ugh Chat Icon

That stinks, but I'm sure she is fine after you leave since she's been going so long and knows the place well. That is pretty common at that age to start having some separation anxiety. Then they also go through a phase when they just run to their friends and not want to have anything to do with you.

I'm so sorry it was a sad drop off. Maybe call the daycare later to see how she's doing.

She's probably fine 1 minute after you leave - at least that's what my daycare tells me. My DS has cried at drop off since he was 16 months old. He just turned 2 last week with no end in sight.

She will be fine. I am sure she only cries for a minute or two. Daycares deal with this all the time.

My DS has been at the same place since he was 8 weeks and at 4.5 now we still have rough days. Best advice - Just roll with it!

DS 1 started doing the same thing at 1, its just that age where they start to have separation anxiety. stay strong mama, its so hard and it breaks your heart, but she will get used to it again!

Its a phase... i know you feel guilty but dont.

My dd is about to be 4 and still goes through phases of this separation anxiety.
Shes only in school 3 days a week for 3 hours... we just got over a bout of the anxiety... it will come and. Repititiion and reassurance eventually gets through to them.

I know exactly what that feels! Maybe u can ask the teacher to send u pics or videos of her when she calms down, and starts playing with everybody else, which hopefully it's soon after u drop her off.

It's probably the age. Don't feel bad calling the daycare to checkup on her either!

Separation anxiety is common at that age. It'll pass.
