Fire Island
Where in Fire Island is the best place to stay/hang out for beach, nightlife and good food. 1 to 2 nights. Is there an area with a nice beach? And where can I get a nice apartment rental? I heard there are no hotels, just rentals. I'm hearing so many different things about the different areas of Fire Island, it's confusing me on where to stay. Looking for a fun Anniversary weekend, just the two of us. Thanks.

Ocean beach is the town with the most in terms of restaurants, shops, etc. There are one or two small hotels there.

This. OB has by far the most nightlife. But, for the beach, it is the "land of no" - you are pretty much not allowed to bring anything onto the beach itself:
You may NOT:
Be without shoes or a shirt (that’s anywhere outside) Ride a bicycle Eat or drink off the main walkway (that’s anywhere outside)
And on the beach you may NOT:
Play frisbee or with balls (of any kind) Eat, drink or “picnic” Bring your dog Listen to music Swim in the ocean without a lifeguard Fly a kite Disrobe (although if you disrobe before getting there you may slide by)
You can walk to the next beach, which is really not far, to have more options of things to do and then have the nightlife of OB.
The regulations for the beach are pretty crazy but I do love the "town" area - lots of cute shops, bars and restaurants

What do they mean by you can't disrobe? You can't take your cover up off on the beach? What???

That is why I would never go there. Ridiculous!
We go to Sailor's Haven...it's like paradise on LI. You can do all of the above minus the dogs, and it's peaceful and usually pretty dead. No hotels or restaurants though (just a snack bar)

Well, That's crazy! Kind of defeats the purpose of going there then. We definitely want to lay out on the beach with some drinks and relax all day as well as the nightlife. And I want to be able to "disrobe" to my bathing suit lol
Where is Sailor's Haven?

I don't think there are any real restaurants or bars on Sailors Haven - I think just a snack bar type place. If OB isn't going to cut it, maybe look into Davis Park or Kismet
But, as annoying as the beach rules are, OB is really "the place to be" for nightlife, restaurants etc. You can take a water taxi from one beach to another, so you can stay at one beach and then go to OB at night

Ocean Bay Park has a hotel and a few restaurant/bars. And you can take the water taxi to Ocean Beach for stores and shopping.
