FLU questions

My DS has the flu...it is going around their school like crazy.

We had to cancel our trip to florida to see my sister and niece/nephew Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Few questions:

If one of your kids got it were you able to keep the others and yourself from getting it?

Did you do tamiflu as a preventive measure for everyone in the house?

How long did it last? We were too late to treat with tamiflu

FLU questions

Yes, the flu is everywhere right now. Our friends children both got it within 24 hours of each other this weekend.

My DD got it back in February. DS never came down with it. I attest it to giving him Elderberry every day.

I would not give tamiflu - DD was given it because it was early enough, within seconds of giving it to her, she was projectile vomiting everywhere. The side effects IMO are not worth the 1-2 days it cuts it down. DD had fever for about 4.5 days and was not back to herself for about another week after that.

Re: FLU questions

Please google tamiflu, it does not prevent the flu. In addition it can cause hallucinations in children as well as vomiting. Many feel the risk isn't worth the reward of feeling better 12hours sooner.

Hand washing and cleaning the house with bleach will help.

Another preventative measure is elderberry syrup. When I had the flu last year I took it 5x a day. My doctor REFUSED to test me for the flu bc my fever wasn't over 100. I had to go back the next day and demand a test. He relented and sure enough flu A. It was so not a big deal to me or my 2yo daughter. Two days each of feeling a little tired and chilly. I use it from September through April now to prevent the flu.

But let me tell you, DH took it and it didn't do shitt. He was sicker than all of us. Biggest waste of money. Never ever again. IMO it's a huge pharmaceutical scam.

DD and I took Elderbery and got better so much faster.

Get some stat and give it every 4 hours.

DD was sick for about a week- spiking fevers.
She had the flu shot too.

We all got it. DH first, then me and her.

FLU questions

DD started getting it Sat night and has been home all week. She did not get tamiflu since she went to dr on Monday, dr likes to give within 24 hrs. All was fine yesterday for me. Around 5 pm I started feeling achy and deep chest pain, but no phlegm. My fever began at 10 pm. I'm feeling awful. Went to urgent care where they did a nose swab, positive for Flu B. Rx'd tamiflu for me. I haven't felt this bad in over a decade.

Thanks....pretty much exactly what the ped said about tamiflu so we opted not to treat my older twins as a preventative measure.

I have not seen it at CVS, Walgreens etc. Only health food stores - Vitamin Shoppe has it.

CVS has Sambucol, yes
Stop and Shop has Elderberry too
If you have Amazon Prime order your next bottle from there though- much cheaper and more selection

My husband did. The rash started coming out after his fever broke for good and he was on the mend. It lasted about 2 or 3 days and then went away. We attributed it to the high fever he had. It wasn't itchy or anything.

Thanks. Dd1 had a fever over a week ago and dr tested for flu which was neg. dr said maybe roseola. She broke out in rash after fevers broke then a day later started throwing up. Dd2 has it this week. Didn't throw up as much but 2 times. I was just curious if the test was wrong or they had roseola.

Re: FLU questions

My DS got the flu.... He had strep at the same time. At 2 1/2 he recovered quickly no was back to himself abound week later. I caught it and was sick for 3 weeks. The flu for me evolved into bronchitis, needed a cheer X-ray, the whole deal. HOWEVER, my dh was fine. For what it's worth, he's the only one in the house who was vaccinated.

I was offered tamiflu but opted no to take it and even though I did get quite sick, I'm still stand by the decision.

It causes hallucinations in adults as well. My dad had to stop taking it for this reason when he had the flu a few years ago.

You mention a scam? Google tamiflu scam, legit it's a scam. The company hides the results of their clinical trials saying something like it works so well they don't need to release the information. Some other company is suing them for not disclosing the neurological damage it can do.

When my daughter and I had the flu we were out for the count for 2 days laying low. My aunt and cousin who infected us both took tamiflu and both were bed ridden for 7 days. The elderberry is amazing!

But also tons of rest, tons of water and tea, and REAL homemade chicken soup. Try not to take anything for the fever unless it gets too high or your too uncomfortable.

I believe it! What garbage it was. He was the sickest of all of us and the only one who took it.
I am SO leery of drugs and traditional medicine..I truly am.

FLU questions

Dd was just hospitalized for three days with the flu. Or a flu like virus (she tested positive at urgent care and negative in ER). No one else in the house caught it (knock on wood - buys it's been a week already since she's home). She was prescribed tamiflu but only took one dose.
The doctors at Cohen's wouldn't give me or DH bc we weren't presenting symptoms

Have they been tested for Strep? Could be Scarlet Fever (rash comes out when you have strep). Strep is rampant right now. Lots of kids at school have it, and I was diagnosed with it last week (no rash for me though).
