When did you stop waking your BF baby to nurse at night?
DD is back at her birth weight so the lactation consultant said I didn't need to wake her every 3 at night but should wake her by 5 hours although she expected that DD would wake me first. Of course, she is sleeping great so I have to wake her every time and it kills me! But she has also lost a feeding in the day because of the longer night stretch so I don't want to push it. So I'm curious when everyone else let there DC sleep without waking to nurse. Thanks!
Btw DD is 15 days today and hit her birth weight on Monday 12 days old.

Never woke DS up to feed. He would wake when he's hungry and ate well so took advantage of his time sleeping so I could sleep at night.
ETA - never woke him from napping either. When he woke up then I'd feed him too.

I never woke my DS to nurse him. If he was hungry, he made sure to wake me up!

I never woke either child to eat, not even in the hospital when the nurses wanted me to wake DD.

Never woke at night either, especially once he gained back to his birth weight. If I felt the stretch was getting long and I was nervous, I would dream feed, but that was rare.

After like a week. One night I woke in a panic and realized I had slept 5 hours straight and so had she and then I was like wtf am I waking her? She'll wake when she is hungry. I think I at least waited until she regained her birth weight. I strongly live by you NEVER wake a sleeping baby, even if that baby is a toddler lol.

I think you still need 8 to 12 feedings a day at that age but it doesn't matter how they're spread out. As long as you're fitting in 8 feedings a day and she's gaining appropriately I would wake her at all. I don't think I really woke either of my girls even though my first was very slow to gain and my second was a preemie.

Re: When did you stop waking your BF baby to nurse at night?
My ped and I disagreed on this, but she was adamant to keep waking her for feedings until she gained her birth weight. After that happened at 3 weeks old, I let her sleep and she's slept through the night since (~8-10 hrs). That said she still got 8 feedings in during the day.

Thanks everyone! I think I might try it as long as I can get 8 feelings in.

That rule goes out the window if it's the second kid

Exactly this. I also haven't really calculated time, I just bfeed on demand.

Re: When did you stop waking your BF baby to nurse at night?
Both of my girl have been freaks who left the hospital at or above their birth weight. With my first I would fight to get her up to eat and realized after a few weeks that if neither of us wanted to wake up then I was stupid to fight it. With the second I never bothered waking her. She jumped from 50th percentile to 85th between the second and third doctor appointments so I was never worried.
