What would you assume a child is that takes it all in, can be quite quiet, wants the parent all the time, goes into crying rages if patents not present or even outside observing between a glass window, yet when parent is around they are extremely outgoing and talk to the world. The child needs that comfortable person around for them to feel " safe". At times I want to say shy but yet it's situational/tempormental. In addition, what steps can be used to correct some of this? Thanks in advance :)

I think 4 is too young to diagnose a "personality type." It sounds pretty typical for a shy 4 year old. I think you just keep sending her to classes without your (or whoever she is attached to) and let her explore the world at her own pace.

Oh I definitely wasn't looking for a diagnosis. My apologies if my post came off that way. I was hoping to have an open conversation with someone who has a similar child.

Re: Personality type

Sounds like a typical 4 year old that is figuring out how to become independent. If you said this was a six year old I would have an entirely different opinion. But at four, totally normal and expected.

It definitely has not been the norm within her peer groups.

Every child is different. It's so hard to compare. Sounds typical though. She will outgrow it.

I would classify that as an anxious child - whether it's normal for that stage or not. And hopefully they grow out of it. I believe you can spot certain personality traits that we are all born with early on .. And sometimes u can spot them more quickly, depending on the trait. I was similar to that and was always a worry wart and my mom was my safety person. There's good and bad sides to it.

You mentioned the peers weren't like that - I'm sure you know your child best. My advice would be to reassure and just have it something you work on slowly. Show that nothing bad can happen if you're not around, sort of like learned behavior, you know?

Both my kids are anxious in their own ways - I believe much of it is inherited because I've done all I can to NOT make them worrywarts but I see it coming through here and there.

What do you think? Do you think it could be something like that?
Every kid has something :)

yes, definitely. Everything you said makes sense for me. I've been saying " shy" but at the same time she's definitely not. I'm thinking like you said she needs to feel more of a safety in her outside surroundings and build that confidence. Yes, she's young but there are other children her age definitely roaming more freely about. Her older sister being one of them. Which is why I question what the issue is. I figured someone must have some experience with direct opposites. I'm not going to take away age though bc of course she will get better with each yr. I just want to help her to improve as much as I can. Thanks for your input/tips.
