UPDATE: RSV - 4 month old and a cold -how do I know when it's more?
we brought her to the ER at 2:30 this morning because her breathing was 'off.'
thank god she didn't need oxygen and her lungs are clear. so ill just keep doing what ive been doing...clearing her nose and running the humidifier.
thanks all for responding!
I brought her to the doc on Thursday because she had her first fever with a runny nose .. Just wanted to be sure. All was good, her fever went down. But now she has a cough. I sucked as much snot out as could over the past few days but she's been swallowing a lot and choking on it. I'm terrified of RSV because my godson had it at the same age last year. How do I know? Should I just bring her back to the doc anyway as a follow up?

4 month old and a cold -how do I know when it's more?
My 3 month old has the same thing minus the fever. Horrible cough and wheezing. Dr put him on the nebulizer. Seems to be getting a little better. Have to follow up with Dr this week.
Poor thing..I feel so bad! Hope your DD feels better!

thank you, you too!
she has no weezing. and in fact i think it's getting better. worse in the morning or after she was laying, like it all builds up and needs to be cleared.

4 month old and a cold -how do I know when it's more?
My DD was just hospitalized with RSV at only 11 days old. It was very scary. Watch her breathing. If you see her working to breathe you will notice her belly pushing up and her ribs showing then call your doctor. Also fast breathing is concerning. Both my other kids had colds at that age and were perfectly fine but RSV is no joke! If you're concerned bring her back. They told me RSV gets worse before it gets better and usually peaks on day 3-5.

DS had RSV at 10 weeks old, and probably twice since. He's at daycare every day, it's just part of the deal. He's been fine, the cough is so sad and scary when they are super little, but they get through it. Sucker, humidifier, and saline nasal spray. Those are so helpful. Antibiotics don't do anything because it's viral.

I didn't mean to make light of RSV, at 11 days it's very different then at 11 weeks.

thanks all!
i think it's getting better. more just a cough once the drip all settles. like after she's laying or after she eats.
im keeping an eye on her. her nose is clearing up so im thinking it's on its way out.

Did last year too. Becareful if you are around elderly, regardless of whether or not he believes it my son gave my 83 year old grandfather it and it gave him pneumonia. He was in the hospital 3 days (fine now).

UPDATE: RSV - 4 month old and a cold -how do I know when it's more?
My 5 month old has been like this since around Christmas. At first it was bronchiolitis so we were given a nebulizer w/ albuterol. That cleared up but she still wakes up after laying down for about 4-5 hours so I believe it's post nasal drip getting into her lungs. She coughs to the point of throwing up. It's pretty much every night for about 2 hours. I brought her back to the doctor this weekend and they sent her for a chest x-ray which came back clear. So, now she's on pulmicort via nebulizer. Last night was the first night in weeks that she hasn't woken up in the middle of the night choking on mucus.

OMG how awful!
see thats what im afraid of too. shes normally a belly sleeper but because of her labored breathing, i want her off her chest.
but now i feel like it's all going to drip back and make it worse.

First fever and cold is the worst for a new mom. You did awesome by going with your gut. Great job mama!! Hope she feels better.

Re: UPDATE: RSV - 4 month old and a cold -how do I know when it's more?
DS2 had RSV a few weeks ago. (6 months now.)
Best treatment for him was 20-30 minutes in the bathroom with the shower on. It was the only way I could clear his congestion enough so he could sleep.
