What does your 20-23 month old know?
Please share! I want to make sure my DS is on point. I do not teach him things 24/7 so I want to see if I should be doing more.
How many words?
Sentences?
Do they know colors, letters, numbers, shapes?
Can they count/ABC's?
My DS talks a lot and can speak in short sentences but he does not know colors or letters. I dont really sit and teach these things too much because I think he is too young but maybe I should?
Thanks!

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
Ds is 22 months old and knows shapes very well. He learned from an iPhone app and points out shapes everywhere he sees them. He knows some colors but often confuses them. I have not taught him letters so he doesn't know those. We count stairs when we go upstairs so he recites numbers 1-12 but can only really count to four. I teach him when he seems interested. For example he often likes to point to things and tell me what color they are. I use that as an opportunity to teach him about other colors. As for counting in the beginning I showed him the difference between one and two. Later he started counting and sayin one, two, many. So I taught him three and now we're up to 4. So it's 1,2,3,4, many. Lol

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
DS is 2 and he knows pretty much all his letters. He knows colors and shapes too. He can count, but does not recognize numbers when written.
He goes to daycare 2x per week, so that's part of it. But we also have Fridge Phonics and he likes to watch the Leap Frog letter factory DVD. I didn't really sit him down and teach him things, but in the process of reading, playing etc I would point these things out repeatedly.
I forgot to add that he has a lot of words, most of which are comprehensible and he's just started talking in 3-4 word sentences in the past month.

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
DD is 21 months. I used to count her words, but sometime last month she went from 50 to learning 2-3 new ones a day and it's too hard to keep track anymore! She's just starting to put 2 words together and say "Hi Mommy" or "More cheese" but it's few and far between.
She can name almost all (22 or 23) letters on sight. She knows some of the numbers on sight and can count to 4 (and count 8-9-10. I don't know why she can't figure our 5, 6, or 7 lol). She knows Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, and Pink but gets them mixed up sometimes.
She's in a really cool phase where it seems like she learns so much every day! Several words, 2 colors, shapes, etc. - all happening at once. This just started about a month ago. I love it.

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
When DS1 was that age he didn't have many words, but knew all shapes, letters and numbers. He also went to daycare since he was 3 months so learned it all there.
DS2 is now 23 months and has a lot of words, says some 2 word and possibly 3 word sentences. Not a ton. It's usually something like.. Mo chalk-ka-kom peas. Which translates to more chocolate milk please. Lol
He can count to 13 bc of the steps. We always count the steps and from Team Umizoomi that his 4 yr old brother watches. He knows some shapes and he thinks every letter is A or B. he's usually wrong though. He does not go to daycare and I don't teach him everything either. He's different than his brother though. His brother loved to learn and had a much bigger attention span. Lol

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
DS is 2 and has know alot of colors since 18m - when he started using crayons i just kept repeating the names of the colors and he had them down within a few weeks.
He knows alot of words (too many to count) and says 3 word sentances "go play now, thank you mommy, etc)
We are working on letters - he knows about 3/4 of them.
He learned numbers and shapes (learned shapes in 2 days) with this kit: Teach My toddler Im not one for tv or electronics but ive found that Teach my Toddler and other books that DS has are quick ways to teach them (at this age they just pick things up quick)

What does your 20-23 month old know?
DD is 24m (adjusted 22m cause she was a preemie although im not sure that matters anymore)
she is not in any type of daycare, uses my iphone apps a lot, watches tv more than i care to admit, and loves to read. she has always had a big interest in letters and words.
she has known every letter and can identify them since about 21-22m, but only recently can she say the name of every letter (ex. she made the sound "SSSS" when she saw an S until last week when she started saying the letter S"
she knows numbers 1-10 and also likes to say "twenty" and can identify them all but will only count to 3 or 8-10. she skips the middle still. she counts things if i ask "how many puppies are there" but will point to each one and say "1, 2, 1, 2" and be so proud of herself
she has WAY more words than i can count. at least 200. but she only uses some of them some of the time. and others only i can understand but she speaks fairly clear, just misses letters sometimes (ex. "Snoopy" is "Noopy" and "clock" is "****")
shes been saying 2 word sentences for the past 3-4m or so, and now she says many 3 and 4 word sentences like "No more berries" or "Thank You Daddy" or "Mommy where are you?"
she can identify all shapes and just recently she started being able to say the names of most shapes. colors she wont say as much and she identifies them correctly about 60% of the time. she's best with blue and pink and uses those names the most. she can say the rest but not always accurately - sometimes green will be identified blue, and sometimes she wont say the names until i say them, then she'll repeat.
she loves animals and can identify many of them and make their sounds. shes been adding on slowly, shes known how a cow goes for like 6m but just recently added a lot more animals. also now she can say the word "animal" and will look out the window and call for them!!
she can also sing a little and she understands pitches very well. when i say her name high pitched she repeats it high pitched and then i switch to low and she repeats it low.

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
Ds is 23 months
colors- he can point to different colors as i say them and used to say red and blue but now only says yellow. yellow is he one color he ALWAYS says when he sees
shapes - he doesn't know them. I've tried...he could not care less at this point.
numbers - he just says 1, 2, 1, 2 over and over, lol
alphabet - when he's singing it...it's all over the place "ABCEEEG, HOOOPE, ABT...now I know my now, I know..." but when i ask him "where's (insert letter here)" he can immediately pick it off of the fridge and say the letter.
words / sentences - he's at about 50 or more words and He says "I know mommy", "I don't want to" or "I don't want to mommy" and "bye-bye, see you soon", "i see you"...oh...and "thank you, welcome" (yup he says it all together like that. lol)
Animals - he knows how to identify and make sounds for: cow, monkey, dinosaur, cat, dog, pig, elephant. He knows what a bird is...he also calls airplanes "birdo" lol.

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
do your toddlers actually sit through books? I read to my son but he won't sit still...he wants to turn the pages before i'm done reading or just run off entirely. I try getting him involved in every page asking him to point out things in the pictures. That keeps his interest for a little but he really just does not have the patience to sit through a story unless it's a sing along.

DS is also 20 months. he says several 2-3 word phrases, but not always. i have to ask him what he wants and he'll say it and he definitely repeats me when i tell him what to say if he wants something.
he knows the colors blue and green, but that's about it. he likes to play with the shape sorter, but doesn't recite the names of the shapes. he doesn't know letters and he always says 2 after I say 1, but that's about it.
he recognizes most animals and know their sounds and can say a few of their names.
he understands just about every direction we give him and follows through most of the time.
he loves to sit through books, but does tend to rush through and flip pages before i'm done at times.

DS is just 23 months and turns the pages too. Then when I close the book and say "the end" he says "again." LOL I can't read long books either. Has to be quick and only a we words on a page and lots of pics. Once in a while I can finish Where the Wild things are. Petty much the longest book I can get thorough. Oh well.... My DS sounds like yours.

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
22mo in a week!
WOrds - not sure. I haven't really counted them. She didn't have too many until about 20-21 months when she started adding alot. She talks in 2-3 word sentences mostly.
Colors - no. My mom was in early childhood intervention and she said that the part of the brain that does colors develops at different times. So some kids can't do colors until 3-1/2 and others can do it super early, so I am not worried on this one.
Shapes - she knows circle, triangle, star, moon and square. WOn't say the words, but will point them out.
Letters/Numbers - she knows M. That is it!
SHe knows a ton of animal sounds - probably like 30 (cat, dog, monkey, alligater, wolf, goat, etc). She has just started saying more animal names (versus just the sounds).
She has great receptive language skills and is just starting to catch up with expressive language. It still causes her alot of frustration!
She will sit through the books that she really likes, but other books she gets bored and jumps from page to page. Her favorite books right now are "I Love You, Stinky Face", "Good Night Gorilla" and "How do Dinosaurs Play with their Friends?"

Re: What does your 20-23 month old know?
My DD is 25 months and she knows her letters, colors and numbers. She knows the numbers but doesn't really count well yet. Like a pp said she watches more tv than I care to admit. She did learn her colors from Gabba because she always associated a color with a character. Her letters she learned from this YouTube video she loves to watch. I feel like at this age they are sponges and are constantly learning all day, whether its watching tv or helping me clean or food shop.

What does your 20-23 month old know?
DD is 23 months. She has wa too many words to count and can talk in 3 word sentences. She can count to 4, but if I count to 20 she will say some of the numbers that come next within 1-20 Everything is Blue, so she doesn't know colors yet She knows Circle, & heart, she has said triangle or square, but it's very rare, I think we just got lucky ABC's, she says ABCDE then just throws letters together, but like numbers, if I say the alphabet she knows some of the letters that come next
ETA: she has become more interested in books. Her favorites are Brown Bear, the big picture book & Curious Pups. We read these over and over. She follows directions for the most part, (unless we are going through a tantrum week), and can understand pretty much everything I say.
