New job and craptastic training
Who else has started a new job and super excited until you actually start and the training is terrible?
I get it everyone is super busy (reason why they are hiring) but when I ask a question and I need assistance on doing something, is it really that difficult for you to walk over to see what I have up on my screen? It takes twice as long for me to explain to you how to get to the screen I am working on before I can even ask you the question.
Please tell me I am not the only one that has experienced this?

I went through this when I first started here years and years ago. I was literally given a pile of papers and had to fend for myself. It was really awkward.

New job and craptastic training
Most of my jobs are like this. I'm really surprised that people think it's ok to give horrible training (or a horrible first impression at a new job). At my current job, they gave me a giant binder and said "read this" - and it was the most boring reading I've ever done. And in my spare time I was to look at the website.
At another job, I was placed in a drafty back room in the middle of winter and told to put stickers over every brochure b/c the wrong date was listed.
Seriously, if you're not ready for me to start, then push back the start date so you actually have productive stuff I can work on!

New job and craptastic training
The girl that I was replacing was training me for 2 hours on her last day ...in the midst of being interrupted countless times. Horrible and awkward. Thru the years of changing roles I make a point when I train people to stop, let them finish taking notes and not rushing them. I sympathize ...

Crappy training is the worst. I am going out on maternity leave and have to train someone on 1 report and probably spent almost 10 hours with her.

New job and craptastic training
I remember walking into my job, I didn't get access for a week and no one had time or even thought what they should train me on. I literally had to self teach myself through trial and error and tons of questions that no one had time for.
I hate shoddy training. Drives me up a wall.

Seriously! I sat at my desk for the first two weeks doing absolutley nothing. I tried going into thesystems to figure out somethings but without actual wrk to do it was a waste.

Re: New job and craptastic training
At my last job, I wrote a training manual as I trained myself. It was awful and not necessary. During my last week, my hiring manager (who I only reported to for a few weeks) was reviewing some files that I had to turn over and asked me what I had left a chunk of items out. When I reminded her is was because she never trained me and I forwarded her emails that she sent me saying she didn't have time she became silent.
I forwarded them to her director when I left.
At my current job the training is ok but not great. They are growing so everything has to change so I am writing their training manual as well.
