Alaska Cruise
We have an opportunity to take a Celebrity cruise with family in August. We have sailed on Celebrity three times with our kids (and many times pre kids). They have loved all three cruises. But none of us have gone to Alaska. Has anyone done one with kids 7 and 9 yrs old? Did they enjoy it? Any must do's?

Re: Alaska Cruise
I went pre kids, I was 24, my exDH was 25 and my sister was 22 and we were some of the YOUNGEST people on the whole boat, by a lot. LOL.
But I am sure they'd have fun, it is an amazing experience.

Re: Alaska Cruise
We just booked an Alaskan Cruise for May with our kids 5 & 7.
So far I have booked the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's tour in Ketchikan. It was a ship featured on the deadliest catch. Looks cool. My other option was the lumberjack show but for timing I don't think we will be able to do both.
We are debating the helicopter to glacier dogsledding in Juneau but I'm not sure how kids or myself will do with helicopter ride... so still deciding on that one.
Id also like to visit Mendenhall Glacier which is accessible in a National Park which I believe you can take a taxi to.
Have just been starting my research.
Would love to hear what you plan!

I'm looking into the Disney Alaskan Cruise. My question is, where do you fly into when you cruise in Alaska? Vancouver? Is the port near the airport?

Alaska Cruise
I took a Celebrity cruise to Alaska many years ago. I did the helicopter ride to the glacier (no dog sledding). It was fabulous! I get motion sickness pretty easily (as in I should not cruise) - and I was totally fine. I was traveling with my mom, so there were no kids along for the ride. Our excursions were all museum type things - easy walking etc.

There are two different ways to do it, but both ways you have to make a stop in Canada.
You can fly to Vancouver and then leave right from the port or you can go to Seattle and stop in Canada.
We flew to Vancouver and did some sight seeing, had dinner and then went to the ship.

You don't even have to take a taxi, you can take a bus for $5 (maybe more now) to Mendenhall

Do it! I was so afraid of the helicopter part but the whole thing was AMAZING!!! Definitely a bucket list thing - that I didn't even realize was on my bucket list until after I did it. One of the best things I have ever experienced, ever!

Re: Alaska Cruise
We are flying into Seattle. It is round trip from there. We are going two days early so we can have one full day in Seattle to sightsee and maybe see family.
The crab fishing sounds fabulous but both my husband and daughter have crab allergies so that is definitely out.
We were looking at a dog sled trip. You get to see and play with the dogs then take a short ride. Was thinking of a whale watching tour and maybe the totem poles. Honestly we only just decided to go so I am only starting to look at tours. We are going with my parents so things like zip lining aren't in the plans because they want to do the whole trip with us.
Anyone know if it will be warm enough the first full day (sea day) for the kids to swim?
Any great suggestions for Seattle?

I did the Alaska cruise from Seattle at the end of July. It was never warm enough to swim - not on the ship and not during the 5 days I spent in Seattle before the cruise. But it was an incredible trip. Alaska is so beautiful! Enjoy!
ETA: in Seattle if you're only going g to be there for 1 day definitely go to the Space Needle and Pikes Market

Thank you. We have family who have lived there for a few years who said it should be warm enough sail away day but they weren't sure about the first full day of the cruise. I understand it can be hit or miss.

When I was there, the mornings were COLD! Like in the 40's - and that was late July. It did warm up during the day, but not to what I would consider swimming weather - but kids probably have a much lower threshold for what is "acceptable" swimming weather than I do

Alaska Cruise
How much does something like this cost - whether it is the Disney Cruise or Celebrity Cruise?
My dad is turning 60 next year and he has always wanted to go on an Alaskan Cruise.
