Sleeping in swing for the night

DS loves loves to sleep in the swing. He screams bloody murder when I put him in his crib. He naps there and lately has been STTN in it too. I feel bad interrupting his sleep so I leave him in there and we all get good sleep. Is it fine to? I don't want him to have back problems. He's 2.5 months old.

Let him sleep !!! My oldest slept in the swing til she was almost 6m old. I let my kids sleep wherever they needed the first few months. Especially since all 3 had terrible reflux issues.
We never had any back issues or problems transitioning to the crib at all

Same here!

Look into the rock n play if you dont already have one. My dd slept there until 6 months old. She slept in the swing, her car seat... anywhere! LOL in those first 6 months. Shes 3.5, no back problems, no sleep problems, shes perfectly healthy! =)

Theres plenty of time to transition later. 2.5 months is definitely "do what keeps mommy sane" time still. Chat Icon

ETA: We even put it in our nursery around 9 months when my daughter was sick because she slept better on the incline in there.

my dd is 4 m and sleeps best in her swing. she has always only napped in her swing. Now the past few days shes not sleeping well in her bassinet, so in the middle of the night I end up moving her to the swing just so we can get some sleep.

Be careful with that. I know a mom that did that, and her baby rolled over in the swing (wriggled out of belt) and it was almost a deadly situation. Swings are fine during the day when you can supervise your child, but I don't think it's safe to have them sleep overnight in them beyond a certain point.

I'd say transition off swing.
Sleep habits form strongly & my 1st who would only nap in a swing never ever napped without motion. At 7 months, he outgrew swing & we had to stroll him... Til he was 3 & stopped napping. Power to you if you want to do that.
I never made that mistake again!

My son slept in the swing until he was 13 months old. He slept beautifully in it and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I was in the mindset that I needed to let him sleep and I needed sleep too so whatever worked.

Man do I regret it! Now he will be two next month. He is the worst sleeper. Won't go down for nap unless I'm laying next to him and he's in my bed. Same thing for night time. Sleeps in our bed every night. I hate it! My husband says he loves it. We are so not on the same page and it sucks. He's terrified of his toddler bed, hated the crib even more. I don't know what I'm going to do when I am in a wedding in July and he will be with a sitter all day and all night.

So I guess my advice is do it, but try and get him in the crib sooner rather than later.

Exactly this!

My daughter was the same. She was colic. She started to grow out of that around 6 months and then we got her in a bed more consistently.

My son has been in a crib since a few days old. He falls into a deep sleep easily.

Kids are different. And difficult. Don't feel bad about doing what you need to do. Sleep is critical for your mental well being and the child's development.

I did find white noise, swaddles, rock and play and the very slight elevation on the pack and play newborn napped to help. Not sure if you've tried these already.

Re: Sleeping in swing for the night

I let my DS do it a few times when nothing else would soothe him and I was at my wits end. It always made me nervous though as I had read that babies have died from sleeping in the swing.

Re: Sleeping in swing for the night

My DS was a HUGE swing sleeper, did it for naps until 6-7 months old.

I loovveedd this website for everything related to baby sleep, she does a great job talking about swing sleeping and ideas on how to wean from it once they are too big. worked like a charm for me!

I could've written this exactly with my youngest. My older one couldn't be put down for the first 6 months so I was thrilled when my younger one slept well and it wasn't in my arms. We finally transitioned him to his own bed at 2.5, but he's still difficult to put down at night. I don't regret relying on the swing because I think he would've been a difficult sleeper as a toddler no matter what. It was great to have a good sleeper the first year.

Re: Sleeping in swing for the night

My twins slept in the RNP til 6 months when they started to try and sit up and turn over in it. Now one sleeps in the crib and the other is still not 100% into the crib. We will start her there and if she wakes more than 3 times we put her in the pack and play in our bedroom.

Please at that age i would have let her sleep on a picket fence if it meant she slept for more than 20 minutes at a pop.

Do whatever you have to.
