If you put your DC in daycare...
15w and ever since She's still in after care now that she's in 2nd grade. She has never been home before 6pm on a school day. She's generally at 'school' (either daycare/preschool and now grade school) by 7am.

Re: If you put your DC in daycare...
DS was 9 weeks old when I returned to work and he started full-time daycare. I love our daycare, I love how much he's developed and grown, and how social he is.

If you put your DC in daycare...
Do they learn much at day care?
DD is 18 months (MIL watches her) but DS is coming in Feb and MIL cannot handle 2 kids. So we are thinking of putting DD in day care. I went to a school and asked if they will teach her math and how to read, etc...but they said they don't TEACH the kids anytime.
Is that normal?

When DD turned 4 she went into the pre K program at her daycare. She learned numbers, letters, writing etc. Not to read and no real "math" - other than counting, patterns, more and less etc
Appropriate Pre K curriculum that prepared her well for Kindergarten

At the daycare my DS has been since 8 weeks they teach. When he was a baby they worked on motor skills and things like that. He has been working on letters, numbers colors etc for years now. They don't push it and its not a teaching like a school setting but each fun activity will have a learning aspect to it.
He is now in their PreK classroom and they are working to get the kids ready for K. It is more learning but still in a fun way. My DS now can write (def not great but it's a start) and we are working on the very basics of reading.
IMO they learn from the other kids too. My DS walked early and I believe it was from seeing other kids do it. He always had a word explosion when he moved to the next room and was surround by older kids.

Maybe they meant teaching in the formal sense? If your kid is being read to, singing songs, engaging in play- they are definitely learning. There also must be some sort of structure at a daycare. If not, I would definitely not send my child there!
