budget friendly getaway during president's week
Dh and I want to go away in February during President's week- I am ok with flying, but would prefer a flight that is 3.5/4 hours or less :)
we are thinking a caribbean/florida type of place. somewhere warm!

Re: budget friendly getaway during president's week
Unfortunately from what I have seen, NOTHING is budget friendly during school break weeks due to airfare. We were going to fly to Florida for spring break week- but the airfare made it totally ridiculous.

yea i thought it was a longshot... My in-laws own an apartment in st. petersburg, fl. Maybe we will just go there since we don't have to pay for a hotel..

Re: budget friendly getaway during president's week
I have traveled during Feb break often and to get decent airfare you need to book way in advance.
One year DH and I literally sat at our computers waiting for it to be noon on the day of the release of airfares for Feb break to Orlando (sometime in July) and we booked immediately. That was how we got somewhat palatable airfare. The good fares were gone in minutes.
Sorry!

Maybe a cruise out of NY or NJ so you don't have to fly?

We're going to FL but we booked way in advance. I think my airfare was about $220 per person.

Also I found if you are willing to fly out of JFK vs ISP you will find much cheaper flights

Re: budget friendly getaway during president's week
I think certain parts of Florida are relatively inexpensive. Last yr, we went to Tampa/Clearwater for spring break and it wasn't too bad.
We are splurging this year and going to the cayman islands. Both airfare and hotel were really overpriced but we are stuck to a school schedule now.

How long was the cruise? If it was 7 days I don't think that's too bad.

We had a great time!!
I will say that it is cold for the first like, 2 days, and it never realllllly warmed up for us. But the ship (NCL Breakaway) was awesome and my DS (7 at the time) was happy with the kid's club so I got to relax
This year, where it has been warmer, I bet it would be warmer and more pleasant
