It's just as easy to be inclusive as it is to be exclusive...We do a holiday card so everyone feels included. And I think it shows that I take their feelings into consideration.
So even though I celebrate Christmas I shouldn't send out a CHRISTMAS card because it's more important that I worry about every other person on the VERY slim and outside chance that they might be offended instead of simply picking out a pretty Christmas card that I like and sending it out??? That's ridiculous!
Like I said earlier, I don't think anyone pays close enough attention to even care about something so insanely trivial. But that aside, it's okay in this life to do what YOU would like and NOT always take into consideration and worry about what EVERYONE else around you would want. It's okay to put yourself first sometimes, to do the things you like, to embrace what makes YOU happy. I'm NOT saying to be outrightly mean and hurtful to people but seriously, this thread is ridiculous IMO. Say Merry Christmas, say Happy Holidays, who really gives a $hit?? Does this cr@p REALLY actually matter to anyone???? Like, REALLY matter????
This thread has me SMH. It's just a perfect example of the silliness and oversensitivity of people today. It's just a card, a card that someone will spend 45 seconds looking at and throw out either right away or within a few weeks. It's just not that big of a deal. THREE pages on what kind of card to send??? ONLY on LIF.

Geez - stop taking everything like it's a personal attack on you!
People are different. I choose to do something one way, you do things a different way. But the blaming of other people or saying it's overly sensitive or other kinds of nonsense is ******. Because the reality is that there are LOT of people challenging this kind of thinking - striving to be inclusive and sensitive. And why are people so freaking against being inclusive and sensitive others? The world does not revolve around me! If I can take the extra 2 minutes to pick a card that reflects my desire to be sensitive to others above my need to show that I celebrate Christmas that is my choice. I'm not putting anyone down, I'm stating a fact of my life and my choice. I will never turn down the fact that someone thought enough to send me ANY kind of card.

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
We're Catholic but my mom's entire side of the family is Jewish, so I always get 1 set of Merry Christmas cards and one set of Happy Holidays. I send the Happy Holidays cards to my Jewish family and friends and I always write Happy Hanukah inside. I know they wouldn't be offended either way (they've celebrated Christmas Eve with us for the last 30 years!) but I just do it as a nice gesture to acknowledge their holiday season as well.

But why are YOU continuing to respond in these huge - You are all crazy to be discussing this - rants?! I think it's been established - pretty much no one would be offended to get a card which does not show their holiday. SOME people feel like the cards they send are to wish the recipient a happy something, others see it as more for themselves. That's fine. But to keep coming on complaining that everyone should just stop discussing it because it's stupid while continuing to explain your "side" seems - "silly". Seems like you are being more overly sensitive then about anyone else here.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
How is wishing a non christiana Merry Christmas offensive? I don't get that at all. I have chinese and Jewish friends that wish me a happy new year on their respective new years. I think it is actaully nice that they think of me too.

I think of it like this...I think the word "offensive" is a misnomer. I think it really comes down to being sensitive and respectful to others. And being sensitive doesn't mean someone is going to have a huge fit over being sent a Christmas card. It means having a sense of good intentions that is bigger than yourself, bigger than your own desire. And look...if people don't think in that way, or simply don't care, or whatever their motivation is, that's for them to own. Own the **** out of that decision but don't attack others who feel or act differently. Don't call them names, don't call them babies, don't call them overly sensitive.
If I have a friend who is a Jehova's Witness, I would not wish them a happy birthday or Merry Christmas because they do not celebrate it.
If I had a friend who had a peanut allergy, I would not offer them peanut butter cookies.
If I had a friend who lost a pregnancy, I would not push mine in her face.
In all of these instances, being sensitive is for the good of the other person, to not harm them, to think of them before myself. I could be selfish and say, NO I'm doing what I want, saying what I want, giving what I want...but then that's self-serving no? It's for you, not the other person.
Everyone wants to demand respect as long they can give it back in a way that they see fit...and that again, seems self-serving. People who say they are being the bigger person yet it always seems to come with a lot of strings attached.

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
Everyone was up in arms about getting offended over a tree set up or a cup
But getting a card that wishes someone a merry Christmas or a happy Chanukah when they don't celebrate is ok
I would be happy someone thought of me and I would love to see the pics of their family.
I am catholic and someone saying happy Chanukah I say thank you. You too. Or I say it back. I take it as happy holiday season.
Sometimes people Say happy holidays. I say that back
Sometimes merry Christmas.
I would never think twice what card was sent to me I'm really surprised so many do.

Offensive is cool, all the cool kids are getting offended. This thread is done. Send the card that you want, and be happy someone thought enough of you to send you one.

I get what your saying but aren't you kinda insulting the people who don't
Saying they are not respectful and sensitive to others
They are thinking about themselves and not others?
And I don't get offering a kid with a allergy. A Reese's is the same as sending a plain old merry Christmas card

No I'm really not at all insulting anyone - I'm really not. There's just different schools of thought, I'm only offering mine. People are still free to do whatever they please, but if someone is being attacked for trying to be inclusive or sensitive, I'm offering my reason why I do so. I was just trying to illustrate different scenarios.

So true and yet so basic.
It's not offensive. But it's like wishing someone a happy birthday on your birthday.
Unless you only befriend people who share your birthday.

Great post. Seriously this whole "merry xmas" or "happy holidays' thing is crazy. I chose to say Happy Holidays because I like to address everyone and every religion. But by all means people do what makes you happy and stop making such a big deal about such little things. There are MUCH bigger things going on in the world.
