Pauley Perrette attacked outside her Hollywood home
NCIS star Pauley Perrette was attacked outside her Hollywood home on Thursday night by a 'psychotic homeless man' who pinned her to the ground, repeatedly punched her in the face and screamed: 'I'm going to kill you'
The attack occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday while Perrette walked to meet her architect in a guest house she owns across the street from her home, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The 46-year-old actress tweeted about the ordeal early Friday, posting a picture of a computer screen where she had written an explanation of what happened to her, saying she was 'alone, terrified and trapped'.
On my street, I was jumped by a very psychotic homeless man,' Perrette wrote.
'He grabbed me so forcefully, pinned my arm and punched me in the nose and forehead.
'He [kept] repeatedly telling me he was going to kill me.
'Then he showed me how he was going to kill me.'
Perrette said her attacker was also shouting his name, William, and believes she was let go by somehow reasoning with him.
'There was an empty garage behind me and I knew if he got me in there I was dead,' she wrote.
'I knew I couldn't overcome him. I prayed my little heart out and then finally said, ''William is a beautiful name, I have a little nephew named William''.
Perrette said the man still punched her, but finally stopped told her to 'get the f--- out of here'.
She then ran and collapsed into the street.
'I texted my friend next door and my church friend cop,' Perrette added.
'I immediately drew a police sketch of the guy who was headed towards Hollywood Boulevard with murder in his eyes.'
A copy of the sketch was obtained by Entertainment Tonight, along with the first photo of the alleged attacker.
Perrette had quickly scribbled it in blue ink, accurately showing the man as having a beard and a hat on.
Police told CBS Los Angeles that Perrette's friend tracked down the suspect, David Merck, at a 7-Eleven convenience store nearby using Perrette's sketch.
The actress positively identified Merck as her attacker.
He was arrested and booked on suspicion of aggravated battery.
The 45-year-old is being held on $100,000 bail.
Perrette said she is still recovering from the incident. She suffered pain and redness to the face.
'I am shaken and traumatized,' she wrote in her Twitter post.
'My house, my beloved Hollywood. My beloved homeless people that I spend my life protecting. ... My life changed tonight.'
The actress added that the importance of 'full mental health care' and 'housing and help for the homeless'.
She then insisted that 'we need full mental health care' and 'housing and help for the homeless.'
She concluded her tweet: 'I almost died tonight.'
Perrette is best known for her long-running role as Abby Sciuto, the wacky and perennially pig-tailed forensic specialist on CBS crime series NCIS.
