insurance question - Blue Cross, Cigna & GHI
Ugh I hate this- anyone have Blue Cross? Happy with it.
Work is changing insurance from Cigna to BC... I was very happy with Cigna...
I am also covered with DH's GHI.. He is a guidance counselor...
Question is do I stay with work insurance now that they are going to BC? OR drop work and just stay with DH's GHI..
Looking for ppls experience with BC...

I only have GHI. Husbands, got it once we got married. 3 kids later and honestly I never have any issues or felt limited. Personally I think its great.

Although, there are different plans. DH is union so it is a very Cadillac plan compared to what non union plans offer. I work for a major medical college/hospital and DH's insurance still outweighs theirs. You would need to compare.

Same, have GHI (city employee plan). I feel its a good health insurance plan. We have a separate prescription plan though through DH's union and I'm not as happy with it.

Each plan is differnt so 2 people can have BC and have very different experiences. I would look at the actual coverage details and your Drs and decide from there.

Same here.
I switched once we got married almost 9 years ago but, I feel the plan is much better (and more affordable) than the high deductible plan my employer is offering currently.
I'm not happy with the prescription plan either - and the dental, it was much better before he got promoted and entered a new union.

My husband is in the FDNY - it's not a bad plan but, the plan for firefighters is better than the plan for officers (so once he got promoted it got worse - higher copays, etc).

Yes, You cant go by what anyone on here says unless you are looking at what the coverage is. All health insurance companies have many different plans.

Yes - most people who have GHI though have the City Employee Plan which she referenced.

I have BC/BS and I'm very happy with it. I work for a union and have union benefits and though it used to be better (lower co-insurance) it's still really good.
Do you know which plan it is? I have POS plan and in network covers 90% for my plan. $400 deductible for each covered dependent

I second the horrible prescription plan and dental with GHI. I even considered leaving my husband's plan and paying for my own because it frustrated me so much one day.

This. You have to look at the coverage for each plan. Two people with the same ins company can have very different experiences and coverage levels. A lot of it is determined by the individual employer based on what they want to spend and cover per employee.

Thanks all - yeah I know the plan specifics really should drive the decision. I am trying to get more info on that - all I have so far is HR said when we are looking for providers in NY look for Direct POS and outside of NY look for Blue Card PPO.
Thanks for the feedback - they are going to give us more info by Friday so lets see

Re: insurance question - Blue Cross, Cigna & GHI
We had GHI and I loved it. We currently have BCBS and can't wait to get rid of it. Super expensive and high deductible. WE buy through the exchange since neither of us can get insurance through our employers.
