Stinky underarms
My ds is 4 and has such bad smelling underarms. The Odor is like a grown mans bad body odor or a new oniony smell. I feel so bad I don't want him to be the stinky boy in class. I bath him he is cleAn and wears fresh clothes everyday. He can smell even a few hours after showering. I wash his underarms with regular soap like dove. And was even putting tons deodorant as per dr advice but it does nothing. Any one going through this or have suggestions? Thanks. I might have posted this before as it's been an ongoing problem. But looking for new advice.

All I can think of is maybe it has to do with what he's eating? Garlic? Spicy food?

I am surprised your doctor suggested deodorant for a 4 year old. My son started smelling from sweat (only during hot months or wearing certain fabric clothing or after major sports/gym days) around 6.5/7 and I though that was way too early. When I spoke to the doctor he too said it was early and he first said make sure he is washed well and then made me put antibiotic ointment on his underarms to see if it is possibly a fungus or something. He did not recommend deoderant that young. It totally went away with the cold months or less activity so I knew the relationship. By the next summer I had to start deodorant (almost 8).
I have read too young could be a sign of other issues (dr mentioned early puberty as something that shouldn't have been happening so young) and bloodwork should be taken. I'd talk to your doctor again. Especially if the smell is underarm specific and not related to diet.

The dr told us to use toms deodorant. It all natural and doesn't contain any of the negative ingredients that regular deodorent does. Although that did not seem to work. I'm going to try washing him in antibacterial soap. And giving the dr a call again.

I started last spring when my son turned 6 - I use Tom's also. It's JUST deodorant, not an antipersperant. I also read that washing their underarms with antibacterial soap helps as well - So he does everyting else with Dove soap, and go after him with the anti bacterial, just under his arms.
Seems to be helping.
I WILL say though, it must be a lot of kids b/c when I pick him up from aftercare, the classroom smells - I have been checking when I get him home to make sure it's not him   - it's not. Thank God!

Cetaphil makes an bar antibacterial soap. I use it for under my arms in the summer months and notice it really helps.

I know he is clean I just feel so bad for him because he asked some boy to play with him and the boy told him not because he stinks. My son told me this story and also told my husband another time during the day. My heart just sank. So I really am determined to fix the odor. Thank you all for your advice!

I would use an anti-fungal soap with tea tree oil. There is one on amazon that has great reviews. I actually use it on my son to help with his eczema... Also, i personally prefer the brand 'kiss my face' to tom's when it comes to deodorant. Like another poster said, get bloodwork rechecked as well and hot wash all garments.

I agree with this.
And - check the clothing - is it 100% cotton??
Anything rayon, nylon, polyester, etc. is going to add to a FUNK.
I haaaaaate anything non-cotton.

DD is 7 going on 8 and has been having the same issue for the past year. We use Toms of Maine and make sure she washes good with an antibacterial soap.
The other day I was at a baseball game and talking to a few moms of kids on DDs team and they said their kids all have the same issue so I think it's common.
