paranoid or no?

so my sister flew in from florida the day after my daughter was born and stayed a week and was with us every day.

never even thought twice about it.

when my sister went home.. a few days later she had an arful virus that she chalks up to flying and being on a plane. (on the way home)

so my moms friend is now visiting.. also flying in. and she wants to see her tonight. is it wrong for me to not want her to hold her being that she's only 3 weeks old and being on a plane is gross and she could be carrying germs from there?

You can do whatever you are comfortable with. It's understandable to be very protective.

With that said, if it was me, unless she was showing signs of being sick I wouldn't stop her from holding the baby as long as she washed her hands thoroughly. I don't know if you are nursing, but if so the baby will have the same strong immune system that you have.

No, not paranoid. I would be feeling the same way. There is way too much stuff going around right now and airplanes are a petri dish of yuckiness IMO.

Sorry, but IMO - yes that is slightly paranoid lol. People can pick up germs from anywhere! Just because she flew doesn't mean she is going to contract a virus. I feel like the same arguement can be made for any type of public place.

But obviously, you're her mom so you need to trust your gut. I personally just don't feel like this is a situation worth thinking twice about.

Paranoid--germs are everywhere- if it really bothers you ask her to shower and change clothes before visiting--we are entering cold and flu season and you can't avoid all germs. Just be diligent about hand washing.

I might even have her change her clothes - lol - bc people could cough sneeze etc on her if she's coming to hold the baby straight from the plane. But that's just me and I'm crazy

I would want her to shower and change clothes after being on a plane. Planes are notoriously dirty and even if she washes her hands, her arms/chest will still be touching the baby. I'm a total germ freak though, so take it from where it comes!

Not paranoid...you're a worried mom. I don't think there is anything wrong with you not wanting her to hold your LO.

Sorry I'm with the group that says paranoid. Even if she showers and changes her clothes before coming, she could still pick something up along the way, anywhere. Unless she's showering and changing at your house, lol. You can't really prevent your child from being around germs. You can just make sure that people wash their hands thoroughly. If she's coughing or showing signs of being sick, that's a different story.
