That one kid.......
My son had his party yesterday and there was this one kid who had to be the center of attention. But not in a good way.. Pushing other kids, crying when the birthday boy got to do something extra special. Everyone wanted to sit next to my son and I had to pick 2 kids and this kid wasn't around when I did, so he pitched a fit and his mother pulled a chair over to the head of the table where no kid was suppose to sit (so they can serve the cake). Then when the cake came, this kid HAD to blow out the candles... My son was mad and sad... This isn't the first time, similar stuff happened last year with the same kid. And I had to be the one to say something to him cause the parents were no where around (know the family for many years).... My son has already said that he doesn't want him at his party next year :( Has this happened to anyone else? Not sure what to do if they call for a play date. My son wants nothing to do with him anymore...

Sorry you and your son had to deal with this. Why did you allow him to sit there and blow out the candles? That is really inappropriate at someone else's party IMO. Did you say anything to the mother at all?

Wow, what a tough situation. Where were his parents? I would never allow my DD to act like that. Esp. to blow out your DS candles.

Re: That one kid.......
I would not have let another kid blow out the candles on my kids cake and I would have moved the kid from the head of the table. You are the one in charge of the party and are letting the parent and child walk over both of you. I agree with your son, don't invite the other child unless you can have a serious discussion with the parent about the child's behavior. It is not ok to be that selfish. The way to nicely move people is, you take a family photo with the birthday child and the cake before lighting the cake. It moves everyone else out of the way so your kid can blow out the candles.
Edit, I would tell the mom what her son did and how this was not the first time. She should know why you are not having any more play dates.

Re: That one kid.......
How old are the kids? I assume they are still little, but it's going to come to a point when the mothers don't decide who plays with who, and your son (or the other kids) are going to turn around themselves and tell the kid they don't want him around, he's not invited - etc etc. (not that I'd blame them - at all)
I hate these situations because the one who ends up suffering is the kid - because rather than his parents dealing with his behavior and teaching him that it's not appropriate, they make it 10x worse !! Dont' tell me she didn't notice the fact that your son was annoyed by this - OR, think about how HER kid would have reacted if someone would have done that at HIS party.
I want to say I can't believe she had the nerve to pull up a chair at the head of the table next to your son and let HER kid blow out the candles - but I've seen it done before. I have had to physically move kids out of the way who had pushed my little one away from his brother ......Like, sorry kid - this is his brother, HE is next to him - back off -
And what's the result? Now your son (who's normal) wants nothing to do w/ her kid - b/c she's turned him into a jerk. You'd think as a parent, people would notice these social things ..........
Next time - don't feel bad about telling that kid it's not his party and the birthday child blows out the candles - don't feel bad to tell the mother - in my experience, if people have the audacity to behave that way, they tend to get their way b/c everyone else around them feels uncomfortable to speak up - WHY? WHY does she get to 'ruin' things for your kid? KWIM?
Sorry, I'm ranting. This makes me so mad.

I can relate. Don't want to get into it here, but yes, and the parents do nothing! Other kids are really getting annoyed with him, don't want him around. It's sad because the parents are not helping the situation at all.

That one kid.......
Ugggghhh I feel your pain. Two years ago "that one kid" opened up all my DD's presents as we were all outside. That kid was 6 and clearly knew better but is a complete brat, with parents who did nothing.

There is always one it's hard to get a younger kid to listen to you, if the parents can't even be bothered.

I didn't allow him to sit there as his mother put him there while I was busy with other things. If I tried to move him, it would have made things worse.. I never thought he was going to blow out all but one candle on the cake. I haven't said anything to the mother yet, but I did say something to the child. I told him he wasn't being nice... Didn't matter...This will be the last year he is invited to anything....

She was on the other side of the room with her daughter (uninvited/unexpected extra guest). She never saw him do anything. As usual.... Thank you for understanding... This whole thing could have gotten ugly...

I'm still bitter about it when I see her. She's our neighbor's kid. She's done some other obnoxious shit too. Thankfully DD was young enough to not remember it, and my MIL did her best to salvage everything and try to "rewrap" the gifts. Ugggh. Im pissed all over again lol.
