doll house toys VS Barbies for 5 yr old
I'm planning on getting my 4 (almost 5) yr old a doll house this Christmas. I'm not sure if I should go with the smaller kind that fits those 6" families with cute little furniture or go with the bigger ones for actual barbies (along with the accessories of vehicles, etc). Right now she has neither sets of toys so I'm not really sure which one she would actually prefer and I don't want to ask and ruin the surprise. lmao. What do you think is more appropriate (or fun) for that age?

My daughter who will be 5 in January is asking me for the Barbie house! She does have barbies now and watches it sometimes on Netflix.

I'd go with Barbie. My 4 (almost 5) year old got one last year for Christmas. I got her a wooden house (kidkraft) big enough to fit barbies. It's so pretty and nice...but all she says is how she doesn't have the Barbie dream house. All she talks about is the Barbie dream house!

My DH built my daughter her dollhouse and she uses her barbies in it, it is big enough. She also has the Barbie house. She LOVES Barbies, I can't wait until she can change their outfits on her own though haha

Thank you, Mamas! You have helped me tremendously. I'll go with the barbie house then and look for some fun barbie families and accessories to go with it

Are you getting a Barbie Dream house or a Doll house that fits her babies? All I'm saying is those Barbie dream houses are crappy and fall apart. Every time I've gifted one to my nieces (3x), it didn't last a year or barely made it to two. Just and FYI! The girls loved them but they are cheaply made for the money you spend.

I don't know the difference. I was thinking one of those Kidkraft Savannah doll houses. LIF never lets me post pictures, so I doubt it'll work, but here's the type I was thinking of. Is this what you're referring to as cheapo ones that fall apart? I feel like EVERYTHING made nowadays is cheaply made, which is why I was originally wanting to restore one of my older childhood dollhouses instead, but shipping them to me has proven impossible. We have the Malibu Barbie house and it's fine. It's all plastic but def has held up well.

I think those hold up better than the Mattel Barbie ones. My nieces loved the the dream houses but they just never lasted long and were expensive. That one you posted looks cool!

I'll vouch for the KidKraft ones too. I got one last year for my 5 year old and she loves it. She plays with it all the time and plays with both Barbies and smaller dolls in there. It's worth it.

Thanks for all of your feedback. I just ordered the one I posted, so hopefully it's a good one. Had excellent reviews and price was reasonable. I hope she enjoys it

I still have my dollhouse from when I was a little girl. It's the only thing I was able to salvage from my beast of a sisters destruction. I hope I have a little girl to play with it someday

I never had a barbie doll house, just the smaller ones for miniature furniture and people. Mine was vintage from the 1950's and my sisters was probably from early 1990's. I soooo wanted to restore and give them to DD this Christmas but shipping them has proven impossible. I hope you are able to give yours to a daughter someday. It's so nice to be able to pass special things down. I'm glad I can at least pass down some of my barbies. lol.

This is actually the one I want to get DD. she has a loving family dollhouse but I want something she can play her barbies with since I refuse to buy a Barbie dream house to have it fall apart. This is on sale at Walmart right now for $99.00. I have high hopes that it'll go lower since I just got a $200 Kidkraft train table on sale for $79.00. Keeping my fingers crossed!!
