C-section and toddler
My son will be 19 months when I have my second c-section. I'm getting more nervous about picking him up and putting him in his crib, the car, etc. how did you avoid this? do I need to hire someone to help while my husband is at work? How did u make it work?

I think it's only for about 2 weeks that they say not to pick them up. And you shouldn't be driving those first two weeks anyway.
For the crib, you could get a step stool so your toddler can kind of climb on to you and then you can set him down.

I was told not to lift for 6 weeks. Dd was 2.5 so it was a little easier bc we had just switched her to a toddler bed. I changed her on the floor and we got a step stool for the bathroom so she could wash her hands. We also got the plastic folding stools she carried around the house and another for the car so she could climb in and out herself.

I sent my son to daycare everyday while I was recovering from my CS. I had someone drop him off in the morning and pick him up and bring him home in the afternoon. He was 3 so I didn't really have to lift him up for anything wasn't really an issue but until my DH came home from work I relied on family members a lot.

I didn't have a toddler when I had a c section but I didn't ahve any restriction. Drove right away, walked up and down stairs and lifted things.
I would see how you are before making any financial commitments to hiring someone.

I had a VBAC but still had lifting restrictions. It was really only a short time I didn't feel I could lift my son, and that early on DH was still home. After that, I would lift my son carefully into his crib or onto his changing table.

This. My twins were 17 months old when my 3rd was born. DH was home with me a week after we got home from the hospital and then I was on my own with all 3.
Even though I felt good, I was still careful because I didn't want to rupture my stitches. I used the rock n play and bouncer for the baby. My twins were pretty good. We told them mommy had a boo boo and I couldn't pick them up but they could sit next to me. So that's all they wanted to do.
It was hard to not pick them up and I'm sure I did a few times, but I took it easy as best as I could and really listened to my body. My 3rd was also born 9lbs 6oz so he was really heavy (compared to when they were born!). I used a stepstool if I had to put him in the crib.

Thank you! You have all made me feel better. I know I won't have restrictions driving since I don't take paiin meds besides Motrin ( I'm allergic to other pain meds). I didnt have any restrictions the first time. A step stool is a great idea for the car and crib. My husband is going back the week of xmas so it will only be three days that week and the following week ( New Years) that I will be alone. I think we will manage. I'm a SAHM so daycare isn't an option. Thanks again!

FYI, no driving has nothing to do with pain meds. My doctor put it this way: if you had to jam on the brakes in an emergency, your pelvic muscles are still not strong enough to support you doing so, and you can get into a SERIOUS accident.

I had a c section with my dd and my ds was almost 3. I was ok after a week but I was thankful my dh took off to help out especially when I first got home from the hospital and was in pain.

I was also told that your reaction time is slower because your first instinct is to protect yourself from experiencing pain.

I'm 5wpp from having DD2 via CS. I have a now 19 month old who is 24lbs. I just started lifting her this week even though I was told to wait til 6 weeks.
Luckily she goes to daycare 4 days a week so DH dropped her off and picked her up. He put her in the crib and he got her if she woke up at night. On the 5th day, I got my sister to come over to help me with her. At 3wpp, I was able to pick her up while sitting so I didn't need help when she was home with me as long as she was out of her crib. I would sit on the couch to change her diaper or get her dressed.
I was 2wpp when I started driving again.

Yes. I was told to sit in the driver seat and if I felt comfortable slamming on the breaks as hard and fast as I could I was okay to drive. I think it was 2 or 3 weeks for me.

This. It's also about being able to quickly look over your shoulder in both directions. Why risk your baby's safety? And the safety of the other drivers on the road.
After my c-section I had no desire to drive for a couple of weeks. Same with my VBAC, but that's mostly because sitting was so uncomfortable!

I was told I can drive whenever I felt comfortable. I drove about 10 days pp with my first and I guess I will see how I feel with this c-section. I certainly wouldn't drive if I didn't think I could do so safely.

My oldest was only 10.5 months when I had my second section. I was told it was ok to pick up as long as it was from standing position. I would have my son stand on a chair or couch & lift from there. I drove the day after release bc my son was in the NICU & needed to get to the hospital
