dh has had sleep apnea for years and refused the machine saying he'd never be able to sleep with the mask on or the machine going all night. but it's affecting him now where he is so sleepy and he works in construction so i'm freaking out. It's time to put that machine on.

Please recommend the mask your dh (or you I don't want to be biased!) use and how your experience is sleeping in a room with the machine on. Thanks in advance.

PSA: if your spouse is snoring heavily and you hear them stop breathing in the night, get them to a sleep study asap. Apnea is very dangerous in the short and long term.

My husband has one that's small and quiet but, he hates it (and the people know because it sends wireless transmissions). A new "alternative" arrived in the mail yesterday - I will give you an update this weekend.

Yes - there isn't really any noise unless he pulls the mask off (then it's a loud white noise).

Yeah - he just got it a month or so ago - during the sleep study he felt that wearing a mask wouldn't be "that bad" but, he hates it.

Ugh i'm sorry he's not tolerating it, I hope the new one will be better. sometimes its trial and error until you find the right fit. thanks for the info about the noise. Can your dh sleep on his side with it on?

Re: recommend your dh's (or your) cpap mask

See I have been telling DH for YEARS that he needs to see a doctor ASAP!!!

He snores so effing loud - that it wakes me out of a sleep most times, he completely stops breathing at times that I have to nudge him to stir him awake, and he has been complaining about how tired he is every morning.

What kind of doctor do they need to see?

My exdh had the mouth piece (similar to a retainer). Worked great. He did not want the big machine.

My husband has been using one for years (during the sleep study, they determined that he wasn't sleeping 16 minutes out of every hour!). It took a while for him to get used to it (it's just the generic mask), but now when he tries to nap without it, he snores himself awake and ends up putting it on.

It's been a blessing for me b/c he snored loudly (keeping me awake) and now he's completely quiet (except when accidentally taking the mask off without turning it off).

omg yes he needs to go see a Pulmonologist asap. They will send him for a sleep study. My dh goes to the practice at 444 Merrick road Pulmonary and Critical Care consultants. Dr. Ciccarelli is great. They send you for the sleep study. I hope he agrees to go. It's really urgent!

My dh uses a nasal mask which only covers the nose. He doesn't like that he has to wear it but he sleeps so much better with it, and feels so much more well rested, that he won't sleep without it now. It is really not noisy at all, it's more like white noise. Plus he doesn't snore with it on which is awesome! The only thing I don't like about it is that once he puts it on he can't talk. So that was weird and hard to get used to. But it's a small price to pay.

great success story thank you for sharing. I guess it will be trial and error to figure out what mask or mouthpiece works best. I'm intrigued by the mouthpiece and how it works
