Disney for Xmas

I am thinking of taking my DS to disney for xmas this year and am completely clueless as to where to go stay etc.... I definitely cannot afford the top hotels but saw a hotel names the Swan and Dolphin and also the All Star Sports and All Stat Music Hotels look very cute and fun. My son will be 3 when we go and I was wondering if one day at Magic Kingdom and one day at Animal Kingdom will be enough as far as parks go. Also I def want to do a character meal and see a parade. Any help would be appreciated. I just really need to get away and not be here for the holidays and I figure what place is happier than Disney? TIA

I've never been for Xmas but I heard the parade is awesome! I def want to try going around that time.

As far as hotels, look into Pop Century..we loved it! Very fun theming!

Do I think 1 day at MK is enough? Eh it really depends on you and your family. We try to do 3 days MK, 1 day Hollwood Studios and 1 day Epcot. BUT that's our preference. 1 day is fine if you hit the things you really want to do.

Re: Disney for Xmas

Please note that XMas week is one of the busiest times of the year for Disney. My parents took me during that time and I still remember the LONG lines.

That being said, the holidays are a beautiful and fun time to go to Disney. We have gone the first week of December two times and it was an amazing time to go. Decorations were up. Crowds were low. Great weather. I can't recommend enough to go earlier in December if at all possible.

I want to be away for xmas eve and day. My son is small he will only be 3 which is way i thought one day at MK is enough? I guess we will do 2 days and hope for the best with all the lines.

I just looked up Pop Century and it is adorable and looks like a lot of fun....

I have 2 boys and we have been to Disney 5x. I know everyone is different but my boys love AK best. Some people will say it is just a big zoo but it my boys' favorite. They LOVE Dinosaurland and the safari ride. AK also has great shows. The Nemo show is broadway quality and we all really enjoyed it. Plus AK always seem to have lower crowds. We always do the safari ride first and then barely any waits for anything else.

Disney for Xmas

If you are going on Christmas Day then I would definitely stay at a Disney Resort. Christmas is one of their, if not the busiest day of the year. It is very common that they close the park because of too many people and only Resort guests would be allowed access. I personally would not go to Magic Kingdom on that day and do a smaller park like Animal Kingdom for less crowds. I would save MK for after Christmas and definitely 2 days because of the crowds.

If you are going Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, then one day is def. not enough. The more days you go, the cheaper per day the ticket becomes. The parks are MOBBED on those days. Totally mobbed. You won't get to do a lot.

be careful planning for christmas day. i think thats the busiest day there- especially at magic kingdom, and i've heard that the park often reaches capacity at like 9 AM and they stop letting more people in.... i'm a disney FREAK (in the past 18 months, we've been to WDW twice, AND on a Disney cruise LOL) so i totally get that it would be a happy place to be if you want to get away for the holiday.... but i think the crowds that day would make it the least happy place HAHA its not just a matter of lines for rides- its lines for food, not being able to walk pushing the stroller because of walls of people....) i really would look for somewhere else to go on christmas, and do disney a different week.
it also might be too late to book a character meal for those days, too... you are allowed to start booking them at 6 months out, so many of the reservations are probably taken up now. BUT definitely keep checking the reservation website because people change plans and cancel things as the dates get closer, so more things open up.

Thanks so much everyone. I have decided to go and plan to do Magic Kingdom on Dec 23rd and Dec 26th the 24th or the 25th we will do one of those days at Animal Kingdom. I was able to get a character brunch at Chef Mickey's on the 26th at 2:10 pm so I booked it. My son is 3 and probably wont be able to do a lot of rides but we will do as much as we can... Thanks so much everyone..

Re: Disney for Xmas

Your DS will be able to go on a surprising amount of rides. Disney doesn't really have thrill rides. Space Mountain is the scariest ride there. And the decorations are just amazing. We used to always go for Christmas when I was a kid and it was crowded, but I loved it!

I ended up going with the All Star Movies Hotel. It was between that and the Pop Century which you recommended and was adorable but i was sold on the characters at the All Star MoviesChat Icon We just really need to get away due to a recent tragedy we need to not be here for the holidays and somewhere happy and Magical. Thanks everyone for your help i appreciate it.
