Breastmilk on airplanes

Hi, anyone know the rules for carrying it on? Guess I'm wondering if I should expect any issues... I'm going away on business and will be pumping throughout my trip. I'd like to bring the milk back with me. Baby will not be with me while I am away.

Technically you are allowed to fly with it but people have been given a hard time when they're not with the baby. Which is stupid bc that's why you're pumping.

Thanks.. I just called the airline and they said I can take up to 5oz in clear bottles. They had no written guidelines about how many bottles. I just know TSA will give me issues though because baby isn't with me.

i've flown domestically, many times, with bags and bags of pumped milk and no baby and never had an issue with the quantity. i've never heard of this 5oz thing. budget some extra time to get through security because you and/or your milk will need some additional screening. personally, i never sent the pumped milk down the belt through the bag x-ray machine because of radiation. i would wave down a TSA agent and show them my cooler and say i had expressed milk for hand checking. they would carry it over and once I came through, I could watch them go through their process. The most extreme screening was when I flew on 9/11 one year and they tested every bag of milk, and unpacked my entire carryon suitcase and swabbed pretty much everything but the underwear I was wearing Typically they would dip a test stick in some or all of my bags, swab my cooler and i'd be on my way.

I carried on about 70 oz of pumped milk - away for 4 days and I pumped - look up the TSA requirement and I brought a copy of my child's birth certificate - they did the vapor test on one bag - but was not a big deal -- I found it better to travel with it cold not frozen - also no issue with the ice packs I had and I flew internatioinally

ive carried on 100+ ounces of breast milk when traveling without my lo and never had any problems. just make sure you allow for extra time going through security; notify them that you have breast milk so they dont get annoyed that you try to put it through the scanner) and they will test it in a separate machine. a few times they just tested one or two bottles/bags...and other times they tested every single bottle

I don't want to hijack this post but how do they test it? We have a tripped planned and I was concerned about this as well. It's good to know they shouldn't give me a hard time but they really dip sticks into it? I'm concerned about contamination and would probably dump it if they did that.
