No underwear.

I also put down shower curtain liners from the $1 store in case of accidents.

Good luck!!

We did underwear. I couldn't handle the thought of accidents everywhere.

Thanks! What's the argument for no underwear?

We did underwear. Gerber sells these training underwear that is a tad bit thicker than regular underwear so the leaks weren't as bad either.

I'm confused, the 3 day method says to make sure your child wears underwear....

NO UNDERWEAR

Our first attempt, day 1 w/o underwear went great. Put on underwear on day 2 and 5 accidents in 2 hours.

Took a 2-week break, then did day 1 no underwear, day 2 commando w/ a dress, day 3 commando w/ shorts, and day 4 underwear. In the first week, she had a whopping total of 2 accidents.

Underwear make them feel like the security of a diaper, and it triggers peeing in them, which is why they are often not recommended. I'd also stay away from the training undies - those feel even more secure and bulky like a diaper.

We did underwear and no pants, and it worked very well for DD.

We let DD pick out underwear at the store so she would be excited about them. I felt it motivated her because she wanted to wear the underwear and she would get upset if she had an accident in them and had to change to a different pair.

No underwear for first day & a half.
They can see themselves pee. I potty trained early & this was helpful for my kids to connect urge with sensation with outcome (pee) with potty.

Re: Potty training - underwear or no underwear

No underwear for us because when a potty training kid has to go it's easier for us to pick the kid up & plop him on the seat rather than struggle with pulling down underwear. Pee accidents still make a mess in underwear. Luckily, my kids only had a couple of pee accidents each & no poop accidents. I love the 3 day method, both kids were pee/poop trained in 2 days.

Re: Potty training - underwear or no underwear

We tried underwear at first and it didn't work.

Then we tried no underwear and that worked like a charm. No idea why but it did.

But every kid is different. For DC2 we will try no underwear first, but if it doesn't work we'll go back to underwear.

Trial and error, IMO.

We started with underwear, but he was much more successful when he went completely bottomless.
