Moms that cut their DS's hair...

How do you do it and what does it look like? DS (28 months) has been rocking a bowl cut for a year but it's so thick and it's getting out of hand. He got one professional cut about 6 months ago (I asked to keep the bowl) and I trim it every few weeks. I want him to have a "real" little boy hair cut (clippers in the back, short on top) but I don't have the time and money to get it professionally cut every few weeks and I don't think I could personally trim it to keep it nice if it's super-short? I guess I could just keep the bowl but I don't absolutely love it.

Anyway, anyone have any tips?

Photo below of "the bowl" (DD desperately needs a cut too, I'm very aware Chat Icon, it's been quite a lazy summer!)

Where do you get his hair cut? We take ds to the barbershop, it's cheap and they are fast. You can buy a buzzer and do it yourself in between but for us it's so much easier to go there.

DH just takes DS to his barber every few weeks (4-6 weeks). We do let it get pretty shaggy in between cuts because we are just lazy about it. They get it done quick and it's like $10-15.

A chain place where it's like $17 with tip, it doesn't break the bank but it still seems like so much money for such a little head Chat Icon I'm so cheap, I can't help but think "that's $150 a year I could be using on something else" so my son's vanity suffers... Chat Icon

Go to a barber. They're cheap. Or buy clippers and you or your DH can do it yourselves.

The bowl cuts need to go Chat Icon you can get away with going to the barber shop every 6-8 weeks, it's not too pricey and they are fast.

I've taken DS1 to get a haircut 4 times. Usually I buzz it, but I've done a few "fancy" styles too. Luckily, it's pretty in-style to buzz all one length on bottom and keep it a little longer on top. You could watch YouTube videos to help you out. I just buzz over the summer- it's much easier. I just gave DS2 his first haircut and it looks like he lost a fight with scissors :( I did it all with scissors since he's only 9 months old. It'll grow back and I'll take him to get it done professionally. There is a kid place in Massapequa mall that charges like $12 for a kid haircut. That's where I've taken DS1 twice.

I cut our hair & the kids' hair. I just take scissors & go at it. No method. I do it when he's taking a bath so it's wet & he's distracted. Then if it looks uneven when it dries, I just fix it. I can't be bothered to go somewhere to have it done.

Get a hair razor trimmer. Short settings on the side and back and longer on the top. Super easy(if ds will sit for a few minutes). I cut DHs hair for years lol.

I bought a wahl peanut trimmer from Sally beauty supply. It came with guide combs 1-4. I buzz my son on a 3 or 2.

Baber is 10$ and we go every 4-6 weeks. So worth the money. They will do whatever you want. I spend more on a sand which in the city so I figure I can spring for the professional cut
