EI for speech for 3 and 4 year olds?
Both of my sons were referred to EI for speech through our pediatrician tonight. One is 3 and the other is 4.5. Are they too old for EI? Do we have to go through the school system now? My 3 year old we are going to see an ENT because he does have a slight tongue tie that was never clipped. That's another story. But our dr says they both could qualify for EI until they are 5? Is this the case now? When my son was in EI for PT I was told he was only eligible through EI until age 3.

My friend is going through it now. Her ds will be 3 in February and she was told she has to start going through the district by 3, but she can start the process in November.

At the ages of your kids, You have to go through the District.
Children that already receive EI services age out at 3, unless they were seen and approved by their District and then they can stay in EI until either 12/31 or 08/31 depending on their Birthday.
Good luck!

EI ends at 3yrs & then switches to school system. They have to have a 33% delay to qualify or 25% in two difference services. My son just had tongue clipped in april at 3.5 but has no speech issues.

Thank you! Can I ask what made you clip your sons tongue if it wasn't causing speech issues? We decided a few months back after speaking with our regular pediatrician not to clip our 3 year olds tongue since he appeared to have no speech issues at the time. We saw a different pediatrician this time and although she doesn't believe it has anything to do with his tongue tie because it's slight, we are still thinking now about going to see an ENT for him and getting it clipped. My 4.5 year old I definitely feel needs some kind of speech therapy. I can understand him when he speaks and his teachers can understand him but if you don't spend everyday with him you probably wouldn't be able to understand him. The dr could only understand half of what he was saying.
