Day trip to Fire Island-tell me about it!
Four adults heading to Fire Island this Saturday. We don't have to do any driving so we can have cocktails. Where should we go? What should we bring? Where to eat? Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

We went a few weeks ago. I would recommend getting a reservation. We tried to eat at 5 and every place wasn't even taking walk ins. Reservations only. We found one place that would seat us and after us it was all reservations. Other than that we had a great time.
If you plan on drinking on the beach, bring solo cups. They have security walking up and down the whole day. We didn't go to ocean beach because you are not allowed to even drink water on that beach. We went to "ocean beach" by ferry and walked a few blocks down to a beach that allowed eating and drinking.

Ocean Beach has the most restaurants and bars, pus some little shops, ice cream shops etc.
I like The Landing and have had mixed experiences and at the Island Mermaid (some really good food, some ok food and some issues with service during one visit there) although the views there can't be beat. As pp said, you should make reservations

Are you planning on going to the beach or are you going just to have a good time?
If you are going to the beach, I would suggest two options. You could take the ferry to Seaview. The beach is a close walk from that ferry. Seaview is in between Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park. The walk to either town is close from Seaview and you can eat and drink on the beach in Seaview. I would make a reservation at wherever you decide to eat. If you want something less crowded than Ocean Beach, you could go to OBP and eat at Flynns. That's always fun. You can take the ferry back from there as well. Or, if you want more action, go to Ocean Beach. Personally, I like eating at Maguire's because you get a great view of the sunset. When making a reservation, specifically request to be seated outside.
Another option for the beach day is to go to Kismet. It's very low key there. You can eat and drink on the beach. There are only 2 restaurants in town, The Inn and Surf's Out. Surf's Out has great food and a nice atmosphere. You could grab some drinks at The Inn before or after that.
If you are just going to have a good time, go to Ocean Beach. There are lots of little shops to check out and plenty of bars/restaurants to eat and, much more importantly, drink at. I would start at CJ's for rocket fuel. Then go to Houser's and sit in the backyard on the bay for day drinking. Then you can take it from there. Avoid Bocci. You can also have drinks on the waterfront deck at Matthews and Island Mermaid.
I'll be there on Saturday too. Can't wait!
