Fire Island or Block Island Day trip
We would be 2 adults and 2 kids - 8 and 4. I have been to block island a few times but it was years ago and before kids - loved it.
We have never been to Fire Island.
It would be a weekend day - most likely saturday.
What would be best and if Fire Island where would we go?
Any tips on travel for the day and things to bring?

Fire Island or Block Island Day trip
IMO, Block Island is kind of far (lots of travel time) for a day trip, I guess depending on where on LI you are coming from. I would head to FI - what are you looking to do? That would make the difference as to what part of FI to go to.

Coming from out east - East Hampton. Basically for Fire Island just looking to check it out as we have never been and for Block island just to go for a day trip as we have not been in years.

Fire Island or Block Island Day trip
If you're already out east, I guess BI isn't really that far. I love it there. For FI, Ocean Beach has the most stuff to do - shops, restaurants, pizza places, ice cream places etc, BUT, you cannot bring ANYTHING (food-wise, music, frisbees etc) on the beach itself. The only thing you can bring onto the beach is water.

Fire Island or Block Island Day trip
I love BI but I hate going just for the day. I guess its better now since the high speed ferry is going there.
But for BI you will have to bike or cab around and it can get hilly and the kids may not want to do all that biking.
