So it's not the being away from her that bothers me so much. It's the thought of her going on that goddamned bus. Like I put her on a bus and I ASSUME she made it to school? I ASSUME she found her class? I'm sorry but she's a baby. No. I can't

this is what I am dreading the most. this part is giving me anxiety just thinking of it. my baby on a bus. Chat Icon

Moms of kids entering Kindergarten or btdt

I'm nervous about being in a routine. He's been in daycare for 5 1/2 years but, they feed him and all. And he doesn't have to be there at a set time - now he has to be at school at a set time.

Lunches - afterschool programs - etc... I don't know how it's all going to work out!

I am really freaked out about the bus too. My dd has a pretty far ride from the bus stop to home. I'm worried about her not bucking herself in. I'm worried someone puts her on the wrong bus.

I am so deep in denial that I couldn't even really respond to this post for days because I didn't want to even think about it. Chat Icon

DD has been in daycare since 8 weeks old for 10 hours a day- 3 days a week. I work FT.

So it's not the being away from her that bothers me so much. It's the thought of her going on that goddamned bus. Like I put her on a bus and I ASSUME she made it to school? I ASSUME she found her class? I'm sorry but she's a baby. No. I can't

She has been in the safety and warmth of the most amazing daycare center for 5 years and the thought of her leaving there is really, honestly enough to make me want to just home school her.

I can't.

And now I'm crying

Yes deep denial here too! I had to call aftercare today and I started getting choked up on the phone. I was like wow this woman probably thinks I'm a lunatic!

I agree. I am very lucky in that I work from home so I will be able to drive her, but DH thinks she should go on the bus and that I'm projecting my fears onto her.

If she makes some friends at school who are on the same bus and asks to take it a few months down the line- I'll let her.

Re: Moms of kids entering Kindergarten or btdt

I read this last night and thought of this thread and of course, I got all emotional and was a mess:

A Mother’s 1st Day of School Prayer

I wonder what you’re doing now,
And if everyone is treating you kind.
I hope there is a special person,
A nice friend that you can find.

I wonder if the teacher knows,
Just how special you are to me.
And if the brightness of your heart
Is something she can see.

I wonder if you are thinking about me,
And if you need a hug.
I already miss the sound of your voice
and how you give my leg a tug.

I wonder if you could possibly understand
How hard it is for me to let you grow.
On this day know that my heart breaks
For this is the first step in letting you go.

DS had always been in daycare/preschool so I didn't miss not being with him 24/7. What was strange was putting him on the bus. Watching him drive off with a total stranger vs. me taking him to a daycare/preschool that he had been in since he was an infant. It was still a huge adjustment, so I can imagine what you're feeling is 10x more painful.

Re: Moms of kids entering Kindergarten or btdt

My DS was in kindergarten last year and now I'm sending DD. I was hoping it would be a little easier since I just went through it, but it's not. Thankfully DS loves school, but the last week of school, 2 punk kids hurt him on the bus and now I never want my kids going on the bus. They know a lot of kids in the neighborhood so I know they will be ok, and at least they will have each other, but I hate that I have to worry about these same 2 kids on the bus. I don't want my DS to be afraid of anybody, so since he wants to go on the bus, I'm allowing it, but so help me those kids put there hands on him again and I'll flip out.

Ugh they start in 2 weeks, and I wish it was exciting but I'm just dreading it now. But I am putting on a show and dance for them lol, they are counting down and so excited to go.

Well, now I've got tears. I hate her growing up so fast Chat Icon

And yes, I agree with the others. Even though this year is only part time pre-k, I keep thinking about kindergarten next year and her getting on a bus and I just lose it.

and the tears are flowing. This just sums up exactly how I feel. I wish I had just one more year with her home but of course I can't. I just pray she will love school, make friends and have a nice teacher who looks after her.

I'm not going to lie, it was REALLY, REALLY hard sending my DD off to Kindergarten. It's honestly broke my heart and I cried that ENTIRE day and EVERY day after for the first week. It was such an adjustment for me to go from being with her 24/7 for 5 years to then sending her off, not knowing what she was doing all day, and just hoping she was happy and being well cared for. It was a VERY difficult time for me when she went off to school BUT the good news is, in time you get use to it.

After seeing how happy she was and how much fun she was having in school it made it a lot easier to put her on the bus every morning and I moved past the sadness of it all. I also felt like it made the time I did have with her when she wasn't in school that much more precious and special. She's starting 2nd grade this year and it's amazing how different you feel once they have been going to school for a while, the sadness and stress of it all is gone and now I'm just excited for her every year.

Hang in there, it will be sad but you will get through it!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon [/QUOTE

This, EXACTLY!

I felt that way when my DD started K. It helped that I drove her though and didn't have to worry about the bus (still drive her). I remember seeing a lot of the kids getting off the bus and coming into the cafeteria in tears. BUT, there were tons of teachers there to comfort them and tell them it was going to be okay!!

As for what you will do with your time! You will find things, trust me!!
