I need advice

I have been having a lot of trouble with my 3 yr old DD. She talks back, hits me and throws tantrums daily. It's getting to the point where I don't even want to take her out. I'm getting so upset bc I was excited for the summer to do so many fun things with her. It's so stressful just getting her ready to go out. I have tried taking things away, time outs, and talking to her. She also started to urinate in her pants and even pooped in her pants tonight. I just feel so drained. I should add that we have a 4.5 month old DS. I was thinking she wanted attention but I spend a lot of time with her just the two of us. It's hard to have the baby with us in a store or park bc I can't carry her kicking and screaming and push the stroller. What can I do bc I feel so defeated Chat Icon

It might be the new baby even though you are trying to spend time with her. IT s huge adjustment for a toddler. So even if you are spending time with her the baby is still in the house and there and not leaving.

I don't have advice on what to do but I will say I have a 3 yo that can be very tough and we don't even have the new baby. So it might be a combo of the age and the baby.

GL - stay strong and realize this can be very common with new babies.

i went through this when my second daughter was born. My DD was 2 at the time and she had such a hard transition. They are confused and they don't know how to express themselves. I would talk to her and try to make her understand that even though there's a baby nothing is going to change. Try giving her jobs to do so that she can help. I got my daughter a doll and she practiced diapering etc. too.
Hang in there i promise it will get better! Keep making time for her and try to understand that her whole life just changed and that's not easy either for a little one.

I could have wrote this exactly! Except my dd is turning 3 in September. I actually thought about writing this many times this summer already! I also have a 4.5 month old ds. It's been crazy! I was going out and doing a ton of fun stuff, and this week I just stopped because I couldn't take it anymore. She even told me tonight "I don't like you". Ugh I'm hoping it's just the age and a phase!

Im going through this too with my 3 year old and I dont even have a new baby. Its just her. I go through that word for word. Some days are better than others but when their bad i end the day with a headache my back aching and im in a foul mood. I feel like im doing something wrong as a mother. But i think its just something they go through. I hear so many moms going through it.
My dd laughs at every punishment thrown at her. I try positive reinforcement and still get nowhere some days.

Re: I need advice

Thanks everyone! Yesterday was probably the worst day I ever had with her. Thankfully, today is MUCH better. I started the day giving her lots of hugs and kisses and telling her I love her. I usually do that but today I did it even more. I have been trying to compliment her when she does something good. She seems happier with the extra attention but it's a little hard bc I need to leave DS in the crib for a little while so she has my full attention. She still hit me a few times today but I'm hoping it gets better. I just wish I knew exactly what set her off yesterday.

Always keep in mind, though - your DD will remember when you tell her to wait while you care your your infant DS, but your DS won't remember that you left him in the crib for a few extra minutes Chat Icon Of course infants need more care but as long as it's not an emergency there is no need to drop everything and run when he cries!
