We took my son when he was two and he had no interest. We took him again a year later and he LOVED it. He still talks about it. There's a lot to do there.

We have season passes. My kids are 2 7 &13 yrs old an enjoy it. It's not cheap but there's a lot to see indoors and out. There are exhibits they can touch., seal show, shops, bird and butterflies (extra $), boat ride (extra $) and cafe.

We went this Saturday. IMO not worth it at all. Cost almost $120 for 3 adults and a 3 year old to enter. I felt it was small and underwhelming. I wouldn't go back unless it admission was seriously reduced.
My DS did not really enjoy it either. He did not want to touch any of the animals and was afraid to even get close to the glass on the tanks. Most exciting part for him was the game room and looking for coins for the games.

Re: Riverhead Aquarium

It's expensive, yes. No doubt.
I went for DD's birthday and she got in free- they are runnign something this year that everyone gets in free for the week of their birthday. Adults and kids.
You have to bring a child's birth certificate though.

So she was free and DH and I had a coupon for like $2 off each of our admissions.

Otherwise it would have been way expensive for what it is.

Having said that, we loved it. DD loved it. The sea lion show is AMAZING.

It's only something to kill an hour or so though- not an all day thing, so for the price, I'd say it's not worth it.

But if you can get in discounted- like we did- the week of someone's birthday perhaps- it was really really nice and better than I expected.

ETA- how old is your son? I agree with the other posters that at like 2-3 they might not be so into it.
DD just tuned 5 the day we took her and she loved it.

It's "ok" at best. IMO, very overpriced for what they offer and it's VERY small so you're done with everything fairly quickly. We only go if we have discount passes otherwise I feel like it's too much $$$.

Check your local library for discount tickets! Not worth it to pay in full, but it's still a great experience for kids and will entertain them for a few hours.

I'm really surprised at some of these responses. We've been taking dd done she was 16 months and she always loves it. Between inside, outdoors, the butterfly exhibit, the sea lion show we spend several hours. Dd is 3 and asks to go all the time!

I think it is way overpriced. I won't go again unless we can get super discounted. We have been to the aquarium in Atlantic city twice. They have three floors of exhibits and my son touched sting rays, starfish and sand sharks (while I gagged on the side clutching hand sanitizer. I hate fish! Lol) he loved it. And it was free for him and only $8 for each adult.

I have the pass because I live nearby and I love taking DD there she loves looking at all the stuff. They have a lot of exhibits, there is a sea lion show, a talk and feed with penguins, a butterfly exhibit. It's expensive but for me it's worth it since I live so close. I'd reccomend getting there when they open at 10 and then do lunch at one of the restaurants downtown. In the afternoons the place is mobbed with camp field trips and it's a nightmare. Also park in the municipal town parking lot next to the funeral home across the street. Don't follow the blue signs down ostrander ave that say "aquarium parking" they will make you pay another $8 bucks to park in a dirt lot where you still have to walk to more blocks. Municipal parking is free but fills up fast. Get there early Chat Icon

We just took DS who will be 4 next month and he absolutely loved it. We also did the river boat tour which was really awesome. I highly recommend it.

That being said, it's pricey, there are coupns online but check your library or community center for discount tickets. Also, we did the whole place in about 4 hours and that includes the 90 minute boat tour and all exhibits.

That's funny- we parked in that dirt lot and there was no fee. It was wide open. Maybe only on weekends?
